Intensifying its preexisting efforts in bridging the gaps in literacy and reading within the Nationalian community, Catanduanes National High School (CNHS) received 640 local books from Book Nook by the National Book Development Board (NDBD) today, September 24.
The collection features childrenโs literature, pocketbooks, magazines, Filipino komik books, textbooks for research and multimedia arts, poems, young adult literature, and various fiction books written by Filipino authors.
The books also include the works of Catandunganon authors, such as Emmanuel Barramedaโs Pwera Bisita and Napoleon Arcilla IIIโs Maqueda.
Amelia Eusebio, school principal, expressed her gratitude to Book Nook noting that the books would be of great help to the students of CNHS.
โ[We are beyond grateful to] Book Nook, as these books will really be a big help to our students in the different learning areas, like sa pagawa ng research,โ she enthused.
The principal also acknowledged the efforts of Hazel Grace Vargas, a former senior high teacher, for facilitating the partnership between CNHS and Book Nook.
OIC-Assistant Principal Jose Roy Aguilar, meanwhile, encouraged students to visit the library and read books especially now that there are a lot of new books available for students.
The books are now in the process of cataloging and will soon be available in the library for the students of CNHS.
Book Nooks are reading centers in strategic places around the Philippines while National Book Development Board helps partner groups establish these sites and supplies them with over 1,000 brand new Filipino authored print books.
Furthermore, they also conduct workshops on teaching reading strategies, site management, cataloguing, and fundraising and networking strategies, among others.
There are 113 Book Nook sites in the Philippines as of this year.
It can be noted that the majority of the books of the school were damaged during the onslaught of super typhoon Rolly in 2020 โas the CNHS main library, which was previously situated on the second floor of the main building, was completely destroyed along with the building itself.
