Thank you very much to DOST Lanao del Norte for the warm welcome and the truly inspiring exchange.

We leave with renewed hope and optimism as we look forward to a meaningful collaboration—anchored in our shared belief that access to safe drinking water is indispensable to life and dignity, especially for communities in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDA).

A joyful milestone for the children of Barangay Mentring!

At last, safe and clean drinking water flows into a community that once stood at the heart of armed conflict in Mindanao. Today, Barangay Mentring in Maigo, Lanao del Norte has transformed into a place of peace, resilience, and growing progress.

A powerful symbol of this transformation is its Barangay Chairman, Javanni Mangondacan—a former M**F Provincial Commander—now leading his community toward a more hopeful and sustainable future.

This life-changing initiative was made possible through the installation of a SkyHydrant Ultrafiltration unit, generously provided by MACS Foundation through Disaster Aid Australia, in partnership with Safe Water for Every Child - Philippines. The installation was facilitated and sponsored by BERN Agro-Industrial Inc.

From conflict to cooperation, from uncertainty to hope—Barangay Mentring’s journey is a testament to what communities can achieve when given the opportunity to thrive.

With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of our Vice Chairperson, Dr. Mario B. Sumalinog, on April 11, 2026.

Doc Mar is a pillar of our volunteer organization—a co-founder, incorporator, and a constant source of inspiration. Through his leadership and compassion, he transformed our challenging mission of reaching communities without access to safe drinking water into work that was not only meaningful and fulfilling, but also filled with purpose and joy.

His loss is profound and deeply felt by all of us. Yet even as we grieve, we take solace in the quiet grace of remembrance, where love does not fade but continues to live on in the lives he touched and the communities he served.

May he rest in eternal peace.

This Easter, may we allow grace to flow within us,
softening what has hardened,
healing what has been wounded,
and awakening hope where there was once despair.

May we be renewed.
May we be restored.
May we live again.

A blessed and life-giving Easter to all.

Dinagat Safe Water Project

The Safe Water for Every Child – Philippines (SWFEC-Ph) actively participated in a high-level consultation meeting convened and presided over by Dinagat Islands Congressional Representative, Arlene “Kaka” Bag-ao, to advance the Dinagat Safe Water Project—a bold initiative she personally champions to ensure access to safe drinking water across the province.

The meeting brought together key stakeholders, including the leadership of the Department of Education (DepEd)—notably the Schools Division Superintendent—and top officials from the District Office of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). The presence of these agencies underscores a strong, multi-sectoral commitment to addressing water safety in public schools, recognizing its direct impact on children’s health, school attendance, and overall learning outcomes.

Congresswoman Bag-ao shared her vision of providing all 144 public schools in Dinagat Islands with reliable access to safe drinking water through the installation of water ultrafiltration systems within her term. This initiative aligns with global and national priorities on WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) in schools, which are critical in preventing waterborne diseases and promoting a healthier learning environment.

The first phase of the project is set to benefit 30 public schools, backed by an initial allocation of ₱10 million. This phase will serve as a foundational step toward full provincial coverage, allowing for the refinement of implementation strategies, technical support systems, and community engagement mechanisms.

SWFEC-Ph expressed its full support for the initiative, highlighting its experience in deploying sustainable water solutions in underserved communities. The organization also emphasized the importance of proper system maintenance, local capacity building, and stakeholder ownership to ensure the long-term success and functionality of the installed units.

The Dinagat Safe Water Project stands as a promising model of how government leadership, technical expertise, and community collaboration can come together to deliver life-saving solutions—bringing the vision of “safe water for every child” closer to reality.
