Against all odds! A pawn down and under heavy pressure in Round 10, 🇵🇭 WFM Jemaicah Yap Mendoza staged a stunning comeback against 🇦🇿 Azerbaijan's WCM Saadat Bashirli. Capitalizing on a critical blunder by her opponent, the young Filipina showcased incredible grit to sn**ch victory from the jaws of defeat, turning a losing game into a win for the Pride of LGUs of Sta. Rosa City Laguna , and Sta. Maria Romblon.

After this victory, Mendoza leads the standings with 8.5 points and only one round left to play in the 2025 FIDE World Youth Chess Championship.

I was playing in this exact same tournament. Suspicion was raised when he defeated a FIDE Master with zero inaccuracy. The boy was checked by an arbiter and voila, he was hiding the phone in one of his socks.

Totally agree with the decision of FIDE. Chess cheaters caught with EVIDENCE, like what this boy did must be punished. There is no point of denying if the device is deliberately HIDDEN IN YOUR BODY.

💭 15 minutes a day can change everything.
What feels small today adds up to greatness tomorrow. ⏳
15 minutes of practice daily = 91 hours of progress in a year.
That’s how consistency beats talent. Every. Single. Time. ♟️
