Ngayong Pambansang mga Araw ng Watawat, balikan natin ang kasaysayan ng ating mga pambansang simbolo na, tulad ng bansang kanilang sinasagisag, ay dumaan sa mga pagbabago at sumasalamin sa parehong armado at mapayapang pakikibaka ng ating mga ninuno.
Ang Pambansang Watawat ang masasabing pinakatanyag na simbolo ng ating bansa. Mahalagang malaman natin ang pinagmulan ng ating Pambansang Watawat kasabay ng pagkakamit natin ng kalayaan at kasarinlan noong 1898.

​On this National Flag Day, the Knights of Rizal commemorates the dawn of our sovereignty, tracing back to the historic Battle of Alapan on May 28, 1898.

​In his official message, Supreme Commander Sir Emmanuel F. Calairo, KGCR, reminds us that our national colors challenge us to examine how we honor Rizal's sacrifices in our daily lives—through tireless service, defending justice, and standing up against modern societal ills.

​As we begin the national flag days leading up to Independence Day, let us display our colors with utmost dignity and let the flame of Rizalian patriotism burn brightly in all our communities.

🇵🇭 The Knights of Rizal – Buhi Chapter joins the nation in commemorating the National Flag Days from May 28 to June 12.

As we raise the Philippine Flag, we honor not only the triumphs of our history but also the enduring ideals of patriotism, unity, and civic responsibility that continue to shape our nation. The National Flag stands as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by our heroes and the shared identity that binds every Filipino.

This observance traces its roots to the historic Battle of Alapan in 1898, where the Philippine Flag was first unfurled in victory before the Filipino people—a symbol of courage and the aspiration for freedom.

In the spirit of Dr. José Rizal and the values he lived for, we encourage everyone to display the National Flag with dignity and pride in our homes, schools, institutions, and communities.

May the sight of our flag inspire renewed love for country and commitment to nation-building.

𝗜𝗞𝗔-𝟳𝟱 𝗔𝗡𝗜𝗕𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗔𝗥𝗬𝗢 𝗡𝗚 𝗣𝗔𝗚𝗣𝗔𝗡𝗔𝗪 𝗡𝗜 𝗧𝗥𝗜𝗡𝗜𝗗𝗔𝗗 𝗥𝗜𝗭𝗔𝗟

Noong Mayo 9, 1951, pumanaw si Trinidad Rizal. Nakilala siya hindi lamang bilang kapatid ni Jose Rizal kundi bilang katipunera, peminista, at pilantropo.

Ipinanganak siya sa Calamba noong Hunyo 6, 1868, bilang ikasampu sa labing-isang anak, at ikawalo at ikasiyam na babae, nina Francisco Mercado at Teodora Alonso. Kilala rin sa palayaw na Trining, nag-aral siya sa Colegio de Santa Rosa sa Manila, ngunit naudlot ang kaniyang pag-aaral noong 1882 dahil sa malawakang paglaganap ng cholera.

Itinuring siyang paboritong kapatid ni Rizal, na palagi siyang kinukumusta at pinapayuhan sa mga liham. Hinimok siya nitong magbasa nang magbasa at magsanay sa wikang Ingles, kung saan naging matatas siya kalaunan. Paminsan-minsan, sinamahan din niya ang kapatid sa pagkakatapon nito sa Dapitan.

Bandang 1890, umanib siya sa Masoneriya at naging kalihim ng Logia de Adopcion sa ilalim ng pangalang Sumibol. Palihim din siyang sumapi sa Katipunan. Sa mga huling araw ni Rizal, sa kaniya ipinagkatiwala ang gasera na naglalaman ng Mi Ultimo Adios, ang huling tula ng kaniyang kapatid. Sinabihan din siyang tingnan ang sapatos nito, ngunit dahil inabot ng dalawang taon bago muling nahukay ang labi ni Rizal, hindi na nalaman kung ano ang itinago roon.

Tumungo si Trinidad, kasama ang kapatid na si Josefa Rizal at hipag na si Josephine Bracken, sa kampo ng isa pa nilang kapatid na si Paciano Rizal sa Cavite. Doon, inaruga at ginamot ng mga babaeng Rizal ang mga rebolusyonaryo.

Noong 1905, nakiisa siya kina Concepcion Felix, ilang edukadong kababaihan, at mga kaibigan sa Logia upang itatag ang Asociación Feminista Filipina. Nang sumunod na taon, itinatag nila ang Gota de Leche bilang tugon sa nakababahalang maagang pagkamatay ng mga sanggol. Namahagi ang organisasyon ng masustansyang gatas para sa mahihirap na mag-ina at nagsulong ng wastong nutrisyon. Matapos mamatay ang kanilang ina noong 1911, nanirahan siya kasama si Josefa, kapwa walang asawa, sa San Nicolas. Doon siya nagsimulang magnegosyo sa pagtetela at nagpatayo ng bilihan ng damit sa Calle Santo Cristo. Nabuhay rin sila mula sa renta ng mga umuupa sa kanilang mga bahay.

Sa magkakapatid na Rizal, si Trining ang huling pumanaw. Nakilala siya sa kanilang angkan bilang matipid, masinop, at mahigpit sa mga apo. Inilarawan siya ng pamilya bilang masayahin noon, ngunit ang sinapit ng kaniyang diko ang lubhang nagpatigas sa kaniyang puso. Nagsilbi rin siyang buháy na primaryang sanggunian sa kasaysayan at iningatan niya ang mga alaala ni Rizal, kabilang ang lampara at ang larawan nitong ipininta ni Juan Luna. Maingat niya itong inalagaan hanggang sa kaniyang pagpanaw sa edad na 83.

𝗞𝗢𝗥𝗕𝗨𝗛𝗜 𝟰𝘁𝗵 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴

The Knights of Rizal – Buhi Chapter (KORBUHI) successfully conducted its 4th Regular Meeting on April 12, 2026, at Do-Wa Casita Private Resort in Brgy. San Jose Baybayon, Buhi, Camarines Sur.

During the meeting, the members and officers of KORBUHI reaffirmed their continuing commitment to community service and civic engagement as they finalized their calendar of activities for the first half of 2026. Particular focus was given to the month of May, in line with the celebration of the annual town fiesta (Pintakasi) and National Heritage Month. In this regard, the Chapter will collaborate with Project Susog Inc. for a series of cultural and heritage initiatives.

Preparations are also underway for the commemoration of the 165th Birth Anniversary of José Rizal on June 19, 2026. The Chapter aims to implement various Rizal Awareness Programs that will further strengthen youth engagement. In addition, KORBUHI will take part in the observance of the 75th anniversary of the enactment of Republic Act No. 646, which chartered the Knights of Rizal as one of the few organizations established by Philippine law. The Chapter will also participate in the national celebrations of National Flag Day on May 28 and Philippine Independence Day.

Moreover, the Chapter looks forward to its first participation as a unit in the 25th Knights of Rizal International Assembly in Metro Manila this July 27-29, 2026.

Aside from these initiatives, an orientation for new postulants was conducted during the meeting. KORBUHI warmly welcomed Dr. Kervy Lechago, who, along with other six (6) postulants, is scheduled to be knighted in July 2026.

The meeting was hosted by Sir Atty. Sharik Salvo, KCR, Chapter Commander of KORBUHI, and Sir Dr. Breandovin Saez, KR, Chapter Exchequer and owner of Do-Wa Casita Private Resort. Both celebrants marked their birthdays in the month of April. The Chapter extends its sincere gratitude and warmest birthday greetings to both Sirs.

December 30, 2025 — The Knights of Rizal – Buhi Chapter joined the local community in commemorating the 129th martyrdom of our National Hero, Dr. José P. Rizal. The observance began with a Holy Eucharistic Celebration at St. Francis of Assisi Parish Church, followed by a flag-raising ceremony at Buhi Rizal Park and a wreath-laying at the Rizal monument.

Messages of remembrance and reflection were delivered by local government officials and Brother Knights, including Sir Mayor Rey Lacoste, KCR, and Sir Vice Mayor Christian Echipare, KR. KORBUHI Chapter Commander Sir Atty. Sharik P. Salvo read the official message of KOR Supreme Commander Sir Raymundo A. Del Rosario, KGCR.

This year’s commemoration holds special significance for KORBUHI as it marks the first Rizal Day celebration of the revived Buhi Chapter since its reactivation in October, as well as the 70th anniversary of the Buhi Rizal Monument, inaugurated on December 30, 1955.

In line with its commitment to heritage preservation and civic responsibility, the Knights of Rizal – Buhi Chapter has initiated efforts to restore and improve Buhi Rizal Park, an undertaking that has already gained the support of the Local Government Unit of Buhi. The next phase of the project is slated to commence next year.

After the commemoration, the members of the KORBUHI convened for a simple lunch at Café Ryu. The gathering provided an opportunity for the members to review the Chapter’s initial accomplishments, discuss ongoing and forthcoming programs, and outline plans for the succeeding year. The activity further strengthened fellowship among the Brother Knights and reaffirmed the Chapter’s collective commitment to advancing the ideals and legacy of Dr. José P. Rizal through continued service to the community.

June 22, 2025 — In line with the 164th Birth Anniversary of G*t. Jose P. Rizal, the Order of the Knights of Rizal – Buhi Chapter (KORBUHI) held a simple but meaningful commemoration activity at the Buhi Rizal Park.

The day began with the attendance of KORBUHI officers at the morning Eucharistic Celebration at the St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Buhi, Camarines Sur. This was followed by a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the Rizal Monument, paying tribute to the life and legacy of the nation’s foremost hero.

In attendance were Chapter Commander Esq. Atty. Sharik P. Salvo, Chancellor Esq. Ryan C. Cuatrona, Pursuivant Esq. Arch. Jomari Claveria, and Archivist Esq. Jhon Prospero B. Nachor—representing the chapter’s dedication to honoring Rizal through both remembrance and action.

Beyond ceremonial tribute, KORBUHI, through the initiative of Chancellor Ryan Cuatrona, extended its commitment to service by partnering with Project Susog Inc., a youth-led organization in Buhi, for a School Supply Distribution Outreach Program. The outreach was held at Caloocan Elementary School in Sitio Caloocan, Brgy. Iraya—an public elementary school serving Indigenous Peoples (IP) learners.

Students received school supply packs and enjoyed simple snacks prepared by KORBUHI, highlighting the organization’s advocacy in supporting education and uplifting underserved communities—values deeply rooted in Rizal’s ideals.

This dual activity serves as a reminder that remembering Rizal is not only through ceremonies, but also through acts of compassion and civic engagement that reflect his life’s purpose.

June 19, 2025 — In celebration of the 164th Birth Anniversary of Dr. Jose P. Rizal, the Order of the Knights of Rizal – Buhi Chapter (KORBUHI) proudly took part in a school-based commemorative program held at Tambo National High School.

Born on June 19, 1861, Dr. Jose Rizal stands as the nation's foremost hero—an intellectual, reformist, and patriot whose writings awakened a sense of national identity and pride. His birth anniversary continues to serve as a powerful reminder of the values he lived and died for: love of country, education, and civic duty.

The celebration was spearheaded by the Supreme Student Government (SSLG) of Tambo NHS under the leadership of President Daphne Jane M. Loma, with the guidance of faculty member and fellow Knight, Esq. Darwin Casano. The activity was highlighted by an inspiring message from Regional Commander Sir Danilo Sumalabe, KCR, who emphasized the importance of upholding Rizal’s ideals in today’s generation.

Also present were KORBUHI Chapter Commander Esq. Atty. Sharik P. Salvo, Chapter Auditor Esq. Rico Sumalabe, and Board of Trustee Member Esq. Jorge Importante. Their presence reflected KORBUHI’s active role in fostering youth engagement and national consciousness through meaningful partnerships with local schools and communities.

We extend our sincere gratitude to TNHS School Principal, Sir Irvin Carlo Noble, the faculty members, and the entire student body for the opportunity to take part in their program. We likewise commend Tambo National High School for their initiative, being one of the few secondary schools in Buhi that continue to organize such nationalistic and value-laden commemorative activities.

Another commemoration rite for Rizal’s Birth Anniversary by KORBUHI is set to be conducted on June 22, 2025.
