Today, we honor and remember the birth of Dr. Josรฉ Protacio Rizal Mercado y Alonso Realonda โ€” born on ๐™…๐™ช๐™ฃ๐™š 19, 1861 โ€” the brilliant writer, doctor, scientist, linguist, educator, and patriot who awakened the spirit of freedom, truth, and love for country in every Filipino heart. โœ๏ธ๐Ÿ“–

He taught us that true heroism does not always mean fighting with weapons, but fighting with wisdom, knowledge, courage, and right principles. Through his famous works โ€” Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo โ€” he opened everyoneโ€™s eyes to injustice, inequality, and the importance of standing up for what is right without using violence.

His timeless words still guide us today: Education is liberty, and patriotism is shown not only in words but in actions. Preparedness is our best defense โ€” Safety begins with us! โœ…

Irene Rayos Ombac National High School actively and successfully carried out the 2nd National Schools Earthquake Drill (NSED) as part of the nationwide safety program.

The activity brought together students, teachers, school personnel, and stakeholders in practicing the standard safety protocol: DUCK โ€” COVER โ€” AND HOLD, the essential action to remember when an earthquake strikes. From the sounding of the alarm until the complete evacuation to designated safe zones, everyone followed the proper procedures calmly, orderly, and with discipline.

This drill serves as a vital training ground โ€” not just an exercise โ€” to strengthen awareness, build quick and correct response habits, and ensure that every member of the school community knows exactly what to do, where to go, and how to stay safe during emergencies. It also tested the efficiency of our schoolโ€™s evacuation plan, assembly areas, and safety committees.

We believe that being ready today means saving lives tomorrow. Continuous practice makes safety a habit, not just a rule.

With the sound of the sirens, students, faculty members, and personnel immediately applied the proper safety measures: Duck, Cover, and Hold. Once the shaking stopped, everyone proceeded to the designated evacuation areas in an orderly and calm manner.
