AUGUST 9, 2025

On this International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, we honor the voices, wisdom, and rights of Indigenous communities everywhere.

This year's theme is "Indigenous Peoples and AI: Defending Rights, Shaping Futures"

This reminds us that technology must serve humanity, not erase it. Artificial intelligence must be shaped with Indigenous leadership, guided by ancestral knowledge, and rooted in respect for sovereignty, culture, and the land. Together, we can ensure that the digital future is one where Indigenous rights are not only protected, but strengthened β€” for the generations to come."

On behalf of the Confederation of Indigenous Peoples Organizations in Southern Neg. Occ., together with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kabankalan – Commission on Indigenous Peoples, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all Local Chief Executives (cities of Himamaylan, Bago, and Sipalay, and the municipalities of Isabela, Binalbagan, Ilog, Cauayan, Candoni, and Hinoba-an) for providing service vehicles for transportation and supporting us with food to attend this momentous event.

To Congressman Atty. Dino Yulo of the 5th Legislative District of Negros Occidental, Board Member BM Doc Rita Gatuslao (5th District – Neg. Occ.), and Vice Mayor Justin Gatuslao of the City of Himamaylan, thank you so much for always being there whenever the IPs need your support.

To all our partners from National Government Agencies, Non-Government Organizations, the academe, churches, and various support groups β€” your solidarity and commitment have been instrumental to the success of this event.

May this spirit of unity and shared purpose continue to guide our collective efforts in uplifting and empowering the Indigenous Peoples of Southern Negros Occidental.

Mabuhay ang katutubong Pilipino!

BISLOK/KIELEP IP YOUTH DAY 2025

Theme: "Empowering Indigenous Youth: Strengthening Identity, Leadership, and Cultural Heritage."

The youth are the next culture bearers of the community. They must be empowered and equipped to become the future leaders of their people. This generation faces a crucial turning point, especially with the rapid advancement of technology that can influence both their lives and their cultural identity. Therefore, it is essential to begin early in transmitting cultural practices, customary laws, and safeguarding their heritage to ensure its survival for future generations.

The highlight of the event was the Cultural Night, which showcased unique performances such as komposo, binalaybay, ambahanon, and many more.

Each performance was more than just art; it was a statement of identity. The songs, poems, and dances carried the wisdom of ancestors, showcasing a cultural legacy that is as rich as it is resilient. The night closed with a shared sense of pride, reminding everyone that preserving tradition is not just about looking back, but also about shaping the future.
