The Senate impeachment court voted to lower the number of votes needed to convict Vice President Sara Duterte, following arguments from the prosecution and defense.

The ruling stemmed from Senator-judge Erwin Tulfo’s motion to reconsider the earlier decision requiring 24 votes. Several retired Supreme Court chief justices had argued that the threshold should be based on the senator-judges who actively participated in the trial, while former justice Adolfo Azcuna maintained that two-thirds of the full Senate membership should apply.

Former President Rodrigo Duterte’s defense team has asked the ICC Trial Chamber to reject the prosecution’s request to admit the previously recorded testimony of witness P-1100, arguing that the witness lacks sufficient personal knowledge and that the evidence is not sufficiently relevant to the case.
