Just completed a three-day skills training with women from the Baguio City Jail Female Dormitory 🪡🛍️
Our participants learned pattern-making and sewing to create tote bags using textile scraps. So, not only did this activity develop our participant’s practical sewing and crafting skills, it also showed them ways we can upcycle materials and reduce single-use waste.
That’s not all: you’ll be seeing more of these tote bags in re_haven’s distribution hubs in the future! We at re_haven want to make sure what our participants create in our activities become an actual part of the reuse-based system we are building with our Baguio communities ♻️
Our heartfelt thanks to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), especially the Baguio City Jail Female Dormitory under the leadership of JSINSP Erlinda Las-agen, Skills Enhancement Program Officer JO2 Joane Becya, our master trainer Jema Gamer of Modista LU, and all the participants whose enthusiasm and commitment made this activity a meaningful success. We also extend our appreciation to UPB-SILBI for their support.
Here’s to empowering women and strengthening communities through reuse and creativity! 🙌
