🌏 A Cultural Deep Dive: Seiji Ozawa’s Ilocos Sur Adventure

We’re excited to share the highlights of Mr. Seiji Ozawa’s trip to Ilocos Sur, a fantastic immersion from October 30 to November 1. 🎒✨

The journey began in Cadacad, his host father’s hometown. This offered Seiji a direct look at the quiet, traditional provincial life—a refreshing change of pace from Baguio. 🌾🏡 It was a wonderful opportunity for him to connect with locals and build lasting bonds right from the start 🤝💛.

The trip was rich with culture and heritage, featuring several hands-on experiences:

🎨 Local Crafts: Seiji got his hands dirty trying to create a pot at a famous burnayan (pottery facility).

🛺 Authentic Travel: He rode the local tricycle to get around.

🍳 Traditional Cooking: He even participated in food preparation by grating a coconut the traditional way.

🏛️ Vigan’s Best: He explored the breathtaking colonial architecture of Calle Crisologo, sampling local favorites like Tongson bibingka and the famous Vigan empanada. 😋

🐠 Aquatic Life: He enjoyed the wonders of marine life while visiting the Candon City Aquarium and Park.

🌅 Perfect Ending: The tour concluded beautifully with a relaxing sunset swim at Biak na Bato in Santiago.

We hope Seiji had an incredible time exploring the very best of Ilocos Sur! 🎉❤️🏖️

🌸✨ 𝐖𝐞𝐥𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬, 𝐒𝐞𝐢𝐣𝐢! 🇵🇭🎉

AFS-IPP Baguio Chapter is so excited to welcome Seiji Ozawa, an AFS student from Japan 🇯🇵, who will be staying here in the Summer Capital of the Philippines ⛰️🌲 for the next 10 months! 💙 He’ll be studying at the University of Baguio Senior Science High School 🏫 under the STEM strand 🔬⚙️📐.

On August 19, Seiji had his arrival orientation to help prepare him for his AFS journey here in Baguio. With him are our UBSHS volunteers who will be supporting him along the way: Rod Santino Ligot (School Coordinator), Ryl Aaron Montebon (Liaison Coordinator), Mandy Joie Abarientos (Host Family), and Aaron Jon Bugtong (Volunteer).

🌟 Let’s give Seiji a warm Filipino welcome and wish him the best of luck as he starts this amazing cultural and learning adventure with AFS! 💫💙

📢 Event Update: Postponed Due to Weather

Dear Friends,

Please be informed that our event on July 26, 2025 (Saturday) has been postponed due to ongoing tropical weather systems affecting Baguio and Northern Luzon, including Tropical Depression “Emong” and its impact via the southwest monsoon, reported by Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration(PAGASA).

To ensure everyone's safety, we’re rescheduling the event. Online registration remains open, so if you're excited to attend, don’t hesitate to sign up and secure your spot!

Our AFS Online General Assembly was nothing short of amazing! From heartfelt introductions to engaging stories and fun interactions, every moment reminded us of the power of global friendships. Huge shoutout to all volunteers, and coordinators who brought energy, curiosity, and open hearts to the session.

This is just the beginning—more meaningful experiences, cultural exchanges, and unforgettable connections await!

𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐬, 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝!

On June 17, 2025, the Officers of the Baguio Chapter visited several universities as part of their commitment to building strong partnerships with academic institutions in the City of Baguio. The first stop was the University of Baguio (UB), where the team officially reconnected with UB volunteers—marking the beginning of a more coordinated and seamless collaboration.

The officers also reached out to Saint Louis University and the University of the Philippines Baguio, reinforcing the chapter’s vision of mutual cooperation and interdependence among local schools.

We are excited about the potential partnerships ahead and will be sharing more details about our upcoming events for this quarter. May we then,
