The Likas Kaya Youth Organization recently conducted an insightful interview with youth leaders from various organizations to discuss climate action, environmental protection, sustainability, and the vital role of the youth in these efforts.

Among the representatives interviewed were Gian Franscine Lampaz, Vice President of the SK Federation and Community Manager of Youth On Point (YOP); Shekinah Hombrebueno, Senior Information, Communication, and Campaign (IECC) Officer of the Young Environmentalists' Society (YES) Benguet State University; Shantal Paleyan, Vice Governor of the SIHTM Student Administrative Council (SAC) University of Baguio; and the SK Chairperson of Barangay Kayang Hilltop.

Together, they shared perspectives and strategies to empower the youth in championing environmental causes and sustainable development.

Have you ever seen a company say theyโ€™re โ€œeco-friendlyโ€ or โ€œgreenโ€โ€ฆ but something doesnโ€™t feel right? That might be greenwashing.

โ“ What is Greenwashing?
Greenwashing is when companies pretend to care about the environment just to look good but in reality, theyโ€™re not doing much (or anything) to help the planet. Itโ€™s like putting a โ€œgreenโ€ label on something that isnโ€™t really green.

โš ๏ธ Why is it a Problem?
Greenwashing:

Tricks people into buying from polluting companies

Takes support away from businesses that are truly sustainable

Slows down real climate action by creating confusion

๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™€๏ธ How to Spot Greenwashing:
Here are a few red flags:

๐ŸŒฑ Vague words like โ€œnatural,โ€ โ€œeco,โ€ or โ€œgreenโ€ without proof

๐Ÿ“ฆ Pretty packaging with leaves and earthy colors but no facts

๐Ÿ“‰ No details on how they reduce waste, carbon, or pollution

๐Ÿญ Bad track record: A history of pollution, now suddenly โ€œgreenโ€

โœ… What You Can Do:
Always check the facts (certifications, reports, real action)

Support companies that are transparent and truly committed

Ask questions and speak up ๐Ÿ’ฌ your voice matters!
