7 years ago our dearest Mommy Nene went home to heaven. 🤍Even after all this time, the house and our lives don't feel quite the same without her. We miss her comforting presence every single day.

Today, we find ourselves looking back at her life—she was a simple housewife, but she was the absolute heart of our home.

This vintage photograph of hers in front of the La Madre Filipina monument at Rizal Park in Manila that originally stood at the ends of the historic Jones Bridge before surviving World War II reminds us of her as a typical Filipino mom -- she was resilient, religious and modest; a strict budgetarian, and disciplinarian; a resourceful crafter and home maker; but never frugal in (tough) love. She was a fiercely dedicated mother who always put us first, and we try our best every day to live by the beautiful example she set for us.

If Mommy Nene touched your life in any way, we kindly ask that you join us in offering a quiet prayer for her today. Please take a moment to remember the happy times, the laughter, and the sweet (or bittersweet) memories you shared with her. Mommy, we miss you more than words can say. We hold onto the hope that you are looking down on us right now, smiling, and bringing our prayers straight to the Almighty.

The OMCOI gentle reminder for this Christmas. Christmas is about sharing and giving as much as it is caring for yourself. Self-care is never selfish. Like Tony and Nene advocated, dedicate a time block during the Holidays as ‘white space’ – of spending time for reflection and introspection, of humility and prayerfulness, tuning out the distractions of work, and most of all, spending quality time with the family -- things we’ve probably put off since the start of the busy Yuletide that had started during the -ber months. Now that the decors are up, the gift list has been ticked off and Christmas mass attended, kick your shoes off, relax and find your zen – you deserve it. Reading a book in a reading corner, or on a yoga mat doing pilates, or in a holiday vacation in your hometown or a dream destination, or even your favorite chair looking at the sunset – you do you! Celebrate the season; celebrate you.

Trivia: this Christmas tree from the 1970s is now 50~ yrs old and still set-up yearly, with most of the original trimmings. Another life advice: invest in things that will last. :-)

"Tony" was an animated storyteller -- of his many adventures and travels that took him to the seas, where he traveled uncharted waters and met mermaids, sea dragons, and other mysterious creatures. 🧜‍♀️🐉🌊 He also told of how King Neptune calms the waves when his subject shellbacks pass. 👑🌊🐚 He had the paperwork to back it up! 📜✍️✅

Apparently, the Domain of the Golden Dragon Certificate is a commemorative certificate for crossing the 180th Meridian, also known as the International Date Line. 🐉📜🗓️ Other certificates include crossing the Arctic Circle (Northern Domain of the Polar Bear or "Blue Nose") or going around the world (Order of Magellan). 🐻‍❄️🌍📜 They were traditionally conferred upon navy, coast guard, and other military branch members. ⚓🚢🎖️

Myth or not, cheers still to the champion of adventures and inspiration, at sea and beyond, Tony! 🥂🌊🌟

A reminder to us not to take things too seriously and to enjoy the thrill of every challenge thrown at us with the fervor of a jolly sailor. :-) 😄⚓🥳

💖 Remembering Our Dearest Mommy Magdalena "Nene"💖

Today marks the 6th year since she, joined our Creator after her long (also 6 years) and brave battle in a vegetative state (a coma) after a stroke. Before this, she lived her life with quiet strength—devoted as a mother, caring as a sister, patient as a wife, and an inspiration to everyone she met.

Time does fly, doesn't it?

At this time, we specially remember her. She was a loving and dedicated mother, a caring sister, and a patient wife whose quiet strength and kindness touched everyone around her.

Mommy Nene lived simply yet beautifully—resourceful, artistic, and always selfless in her sacrifices for family. Her love and example remain alive in us, and we carry her memory by living each day with the same warmth, patience, and generosity she showed.

We miss you dearly, Mommy, but your love continues to inspire us. We hope to keep your legacy alive through the OMCOI, live your examples in our everyday lives and inspire others to do the same. 🌹❤️

If our loved ones could send us messages from the great beyond, what would they tell us?

DIARY REVEAL. This was Dad "Tony"'s diary entry from 1998-- this message resounds to me as what he would have wanted to say from the other side. It was a reassuring message that while we may physically be apart in distance and time, we remember them, and they remember us; we must be strong and keep the faith.

Another entry describes how he had anticipated his date of earthly goodbye as seen in another page. He was certainly the "man with the plan", and one who had planned to prepare for the grand finale as well. Of being at peace with oneself and with others.

Commemorating his 11th death anniversary tomorrow, January 13, 2025. And to those who are missing him a little extra on this day, a big virtual hug to all of you.

A mass offering will be celebrated at the The Minor Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary of Manaoag on 13 January 2025, 6AM (both physical and online).

📘📗📓📚The OMCOI continues its educational campaign and keeping the spirit of reading alive, by donating their National Geographic magazines collection to the Baguio City Public Library. This collection that has spanned almost 3 generations and are mostly 'vintage'. Magdalena and Antonio Ompico were avid collectors of magazines during the times that the Internet wasn’t available -- it was a great source of information and delight. And in the generations that followed, to read, browse and appreciate. We hope that these magazines could still be used, or donated further to others who might find this useful especially the Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged. The OMCOI, the foundation that was created in their memory promulgates their legacy of valuing education and empowerment with knowledge and understanding.📓📘📗

Back to the present, Isn’t it remarkable that Antonio/ Tony's full name is Antonio Padua Ompico? He had once served as a coast guard (a waterman!) and faced his own challenges before starting a family? His legacy inspires our mission at OMCOI, where we strive to support disabled elders and those in need, hopefully with the founding of Baguio's first Elderly Assisted Care Facility.

Let’s honor Tony and St Anthony's spirit together—pray for their intercession and help us continue their dreams!

🌹 Today marks the 5th anniversary of the passing of Magdalena 'Nene' Ompico. As we remember her, we invite everyone to take a moment to say a prayer for her beautiful soul. Let’s cherish the fond memories and experiences we shared with her during her time with us. In her spirit, let’s remember to spread kindness and pay it forward to others. Your love and compassion can make a difference! 💖

Mass intentions for the Repose of Souls at the Christ the King Parish Green Meadows, Quezon City will be offered during the 6PM mass today, September 14, 2024.

** In this picture: Mommy Nene is seen with the statue of St Francis of Assisi at their Heritage Home in Mangaldan, Pangasinan. St Francis is the patron saint of the environment and animals because he loved all creatures and allegedly preached to even the birds. Mommy Nene was also very passionate with caring and flowers, plants and all living things. She certainly lived and practiced the virtues of St Francis in her everyday activities.

In celebration of the new graduates, cheers to your dreams and the bright future ahead! Today we honor Nene Ompico in one of her many roles -- the diliigent student and academician on her Birthday, today, May 29. Here are photos of her college graduationS at the University of Sto Tomas. :-)

Yes, graduations! Unbeknownst to many, she holds a dual degree, first in BS Zoology and second in BS Pharmacy. She was a Medical program undergrad as well. Despite being a board-certified Pharmacist, she worked as a Lab technician and was an expert phlebotomist abroad. She pored many hours in front of the books and inside the classroom but also learned in earnest even while working. Sometimes our final career is far from the path we had prepared and hoped for, but where the road leads us is up to His plans. Trust in the Lord to know what is best for us.

This goes out to all of you who are struggling, confused or in the crossroads distraught by the difficulties not only of the lessons, but of balancing life and work, of wondering about your future career, earning your keep and finding your place in the world.

Happy 90th Birthday in heaven, mom!
