Typhoon Tino and Typhoon Uwan left trails of flooding, landslides, and disrupted lives across our country, especially in mountain and coastal communities that contribute the least, yet suffer the most.

This Climate Change Consciousness Week (Nov 19โ€“25), letโ€™s reflect on what it really means to care for our planet. Itโ€™s not just about switching to reusables or refilling at Tingi (though those matter!), itโ€™s also about demanding real action from those with the biggest footprints.

- Corporations must be held accountable for the waste and emissions they create.
- Governments must be accountable for protecting communities and enforcing strong environmental policies.
๐Ÿ’š And we, as individuals, can keep choosing better, through every refill, every mindful decision, every conversation that sparks change.

Climate consciousness is more than just awareness; itโ€™s compassion in action. Join us this Climate Consciousness Week. Choose better. Speak up. Refill with purpose.

Recognizing the importance of protecting ecosystems and the relentless destruction they face from extractive activities, many locally managed conservation efforts, whether land- or sea-based, have been initiated in communities across the country.

A "Native Foods November" Extra:
We collectively acknowledge Native women being historically head of agricultural activities in the Eastern Woodlands, and assume much the same was practiced in pre-Columbian times, however we less often give serious thought or credit to Indigenous women as agricultural pioneersโ€ฆ responsible for ushering in the birth of plant domestication (in North America) and revolutionizing crops to prosper far outside their native range. As Gayle J. Fritz points out, Native โ€œwomen deserve credit for domesticating North American native crops, and for breeding the Northern Flint maize that when crossed with Mexican Dents after Contact produced Corn Belt dent varieties that played a large role in making the United States a prosperous nation.โ€ Yes, we owe our commercial corn strains not just to the first breeders of corn in Mexico but to the North American Native women who created hardy strains of Eastern 8-Row/Flints able to grow in northern latitudes.

Agricultural science IS the place of Native women... of Indigenous persons! Check out:

"to encourage more Native American, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian college students to enter agriculture and agriculture-related fields so they can better assist their communities with efforts to reclaim local food systems control"... https://www.firstnations.org/projects/native-agriculture-food-systems-scholarships/

-The Native American Agriculture Fund... providing "grants to eligible entities for business assistance, agricultural education, technical support, and advocacy services to support Native farmers and ranchers"... https://nativeamericanagriculturefund.org/about/

OPINION | NCIP-CAR and the NCIP Commission were complicit in betraying the Bulalacao indigenous peoples. Instead of acting as gatekeepers to protect the Indigenous peoplesโ€™ rights, they went against the very core of the IPRA.
