The Shield Within @ BANTAYAN Pilipinas

BACOLOD CITY — In a powerful display of nationalistic fervor, 40 frontline leaders officially ignited a new era of grassroots advocacy during the inaugural orientation conference of BANTAYAN Pilipinas held on 7 February 2026. The event served as more than just a meeting; it was a formal "launchpad" for a mission dedicated to a singular, noble cause: "Protecting those who protect and serving those who serve."

The hallmark of this commitment is the organization's unique symbolic gesture, the right clinched fist placed over the chest. This isn't merely a salute; it is a profound declaration of solidarity and pride. By pounding the fist once over the heart, a volunteer-member signals that their commitment to the Filipino people is etched into their very core. It represents the "Shield within" a promise that before they protect the public, they first vow to protect and uphold the dignity of their fellow Partners at BANTAYAN Pilipinas.

This gesture serves as a silent, universal language for members. When a volunteer encounters another in any corner of the archipelago and abroad, this strike of the chest followed by the signature BANTAYAN Pilipinas handshake acts as a "sacred bond." It signifies an immediate recognition of camaraderie and a mutual oath to serve one another to the best of their ability.

The 40 pioneering leaders signed a manifesto of support, emphasizing that for the Philippines to thrive, its protectors from security forces to community frontliners must never stand alone. By joining this cause, they invite every patriotic Filipino to embrace this bond, ensuring that the spirit of Bayanihan is transformed into a disciplined, lifelong commitment to the country’s unsung heroes.

Why the Clinched Fist Over the Heart?

The gesture is the physical manifestation of the BANTAYAN Pilipinas soul. The clinched fist symbolizes the strength and unyielding resolve of the Filipino spirit, while its placement over the chest signifies that the advocacy is driven by love for the country and its defenders.

The single pound represents the heartbeat of the movement “One Pulse, One Mission, and One Unified Force. It is a reminder that being a volunteer-member is not just a title, but a pledge to be the ultimate support system for those who sacrifice for the nation’s peace.

BACOLOD CITY — Marking a historic milestone for grassroots advocacy, 40 frontline leaders formally pledged their unwavering commitment to BANTAYAN Pilipinas during its inaugural orientation conference held here on 7 February 2026.

The conference served as the official launchpad for the movement’s mission to champion those on the front lines of public service. Centered on the core theme of "protecting those who protect and serving those who serve," the event highlighted the urgent need for a dedicated support system for the nation’s protectors.

During the proceedings, the 40 leaders signed a manifesto of support, signifying their full alignment with the organization’s vision for a more resilient and unified Philippines. BANTAYAN Pilipinas Ignites Vigor in First Bacolod Orientation: "Protecting Those Who Protect, Serving Those Who Serve"

BACOLOD CITY — A new era of community resilience and frontline support was officially launched as Bantayan Pilipinas conducted its first-ever Bacolod City Orientation Conference. Starting at 2:00 PM of 7 February 2026, the event drew a powerful assembly of 40 frontline leaders coming together from various barangays in Bacolod City, as well as the neighboring cities of Talisay, Victorias, and Bago, and the municipalities of Murcia, San Enrique, and Valladolid.

BANTAYAN Pilipinas is a national advocacy movement dedicated to frontline security, protection, and community resilience. The organization is built on the fundamental belief that a nation's strength is defined by those who safeguard it. Its core mission—"Protecting Those Who Protect the People"—aims to provide dignity, justice, and recognition for the dedicated individuals who maintain peace, order, and public safety every day.

A Strong Foundation of Support
The success of this inaugural conference was made possible through the generous support of local leadership. BANTAYAN Pilipinas extends its deepest gratitude to Punong Barangay Engr. Jerry P. Tingson, REE, along with the barangay tanods, staff, and volunteers. Their commitment was instrumental in providing the venue and logistics necessary to host these frontline leaders as they began their journey with the movement.

Commitment to the Cause
Presided over by the Founding Chairman, Atty. John P. Deles, the conference served as a platform for leaders to align with the organization's vision of professional training, legal recognition, and worker protection. By the end of the session, every frontline leader in attendance signified their full support, officially becoming member-volunteers of BANTAYAN Pilipinas.

These leaders affirmed their unwavering willingness to serve those who serve, standing as a united front for community safety. In a powerful display of solidarity, the attendees from across the region spoke in one voice to the people they protect: "SALUDO KAMI SA INYO!"

RECOGNITION OF SOTTO TV10 ADVOCACY FOR IP CENTENARIANS

Bantayan Pilipinas officially recognizes the critical role of the Sotto TV10 page in uncovering the plight of four indigenous elders from Sitio Kawayan, Maruglo, Capas, Tarlac. Their digital coverage has been instrumental in our ongoing legal and administrative push for justice.

We extend our deepest appreciation to the Administrator of Sotto TV10 for utilizing their platform to voice the concerns of Tatay Orlando G. Sumawang, Brigedo M. Capiz, Rodreges Capiz Tarrosa and Nanay Miring D. Tarroza. Two of these elders are alleged war veterans. Their story, as featured on their page, highlighted the distressing allegation that they were denied the ₱100,000.00 cash gift under the Centenarians Act of 2016 (RA 10868) on the logically flawed basis of being "over-aged."

In direct response to the Sotto TV10 vlog, Bantayan Pilipinas has taken the following steps, a Formal Request for Intervention by filing a petition with Hon. Franklin M. Quijano, Chairman of the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC), and the DSWD Field Office III and our Legal refutation challenging the disqualification by citing Republic Act No. 11982 (Expanded Centenarians Act), which mandates honor for those reaching 100 and beyond, reinforcing that being "over 100" should never be a barrier to benefits.

Sotto TV10 Admin and Team, Saludo po kami sa Inyo!!!

BANTAYAN PILIPINAS CHAMPIONS THE RIGHTS OF INDIGENOUS WAR HEROES

Bantayan Pilipinas has taken a decisive stand against administrative injustice by filing an urgent request for intervention with National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) Chairman Franklin M. Quijano and DSWD Region III Director Venus F. Rebuldela. Our mission is clear, to ensure that the law serves the people, not hinders them.

Our advocacy focuses on four (4) esteemed and apparently indigenous elders from Sitio Kawayan, Capas, Tarlac: Orlando G. Sumawang, Brigedo M. Capiz, Rodreges Capiz Tarrosa, and Miring D. Tarroza. Among them are war veterans who risked their lives for our freedom, yet they are currently being denied their ₱100,000.00 cash gift under the Centenarians Act (RA 10868).

Bantayan Pilipinas is aggressively challenging the absurd claim that these elders are "over-aged" for benefits. We assert that it is a logical fallacy to deny a 100-year-old benefit to someone because they have lived longer than a century.

Under Republic Act 11982, the state’s duty to honor seniors is strengthened, not diminished by age.

We are leveraging the NCSC-NCIP Partnership to bypass documentation hurdles facing our ICC members.

This action solidifies Bantayan Pilipinas as a vigilant watchdog for the marginalized. We do not just observe; we act. We will continue to pressure the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the NCSC until these heroes receive the dignity and financial recognition they earned decades ago.

Sa ating mga Security Guards, Saludo kami sa Inyo!!!

In the early hours of July 23, 2012, three men flagged down a jeepney at Plaza Sta. Cruz in Manila. The vehicle, headed toward Pasay City, carried several passengers, including Rue. What seemed like an ordinary commute quickly turned perilous when the suspects brandished fan knives and a handgun upon reaching Padre Burgos Avenue. They declared a holdup, demanding valuables from the passengers.

Unbeknownst to the robbers, Rue—a 29-year-old SAF officer—was among those they intended to victimize. Despite his youthful appearance that belied his rank and training, Rue’s instincts kicked in. He identified himself as a police officer, likely hoping to de-escalate the situation. Instead, one of the suspects lunged at him with a knife. In self-defense, Rue drew his firearm and shot the attacker, killing him on the spot.

The other two suspects, perhaps realizing their mistake too late, abandoned their mission and fled the scene. The jeepney driver, Leonardo Espinosa, immediately drove to the Manila Police District (MPD) headquarters on UN Avenue to report the incident and turn over both Rue and the body of the deceased suspect.

When courage meets adversity, extraordinary acts of heroism emerge. Such was the case in Manila, where four security guards—Jonathan Pio, Gejohn Juayang, Gil Mata, and Marilou Legaspi—displayed unparalleled bravery by foiling an armed robbery inside a passenger jeepney. Their gallant actions earned them the Philippine National Police (PNP) Outstanding Conduct Medal, known as the Medalya ng Katangi-tanging Asal, during a ceremony held by the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).

This inspiring story of valor not only highlights the heroism of ordinary citizens but also underscores the resilience and determination that can overcome even the most harrowing situations.

The story of Jonathan Pio, Gejohn Juayang, Gil Mata, and Marilou Legaspi reminds us that true heroism lies in selflessness and bravery during moments of crisis. Their actions have not only earned them recognition from the PNP but also inspired countless Filipinos to believe in the power of ordinary individuals to make a difference.
