TWO KILLED, SEVERAL INJURED IN SILAY CITY SHOOTING WHILE MONITORING ALLEGED VOTE-BUYING
Two people have been confirmed dead and several others injured following a shooting incident at around 7:00 a.m. today, May 12, 2025, outside the headquarters of Grupo Asenso in Barangay Mambulac, Silay City.
According to initial reports, eight men affiliated with the Ugyon Silaynon group, led by re-electionist Joedith Gallego, were shot by unidentified gunmen onboard a white van.
The victims were said to be part of Gallego’s monitoring team investigating alleged vote-buying activities by rival political group Grupo Asenso Silay.
Eyewitnesses claim the suspects opened fire from the moving van as it passed the area, hitting several members of the team.
Gallego confirmed that his group had been monitoring the vicinity of the Asenso headquarters since last night, amid suspicions of illegal campaign activity. He further alleged that after Asenso’s camp failed to distribute money for vote buying, the attack ensued.
The wounded victims are currently receiving treatment at Teresita Lopez Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City.
