A Capampangan Architect, laid to rest.
Rest in peace...Arch. Lorenzo "Lor" Calma.
Architect par excellence Lor Calma, 97
Architect, interior designer, and furniture designer Lorenzo Licad Calma aka Lor Calma, passed away yesterday at the age of 97.
Born on March 4, 1928 in Arayat, Pampanga, Calma was known to have designed iconic, deconstructivist buildings such as the School of Art and Design of the College of Saint Benilde in Manila and the Mind Museum in Taguig.
He also designed the interiors of many structures such as the Development Bank of the Philippines building in Makati, Silahis Hotel in Manila, and the Benguet Center in Mandaluyong.
Calma was also an artist, focusing on painting and sculpture. He had mounted exhibitions of his works in 2009 and 2012 at the Ayala Museum and LRI Design Plaza respectively. Both are located in Makati.
A founding member and president of the Philippine Institute of Interior Designers, Calma was awarded the Patnubay ng Sining at Kalinangan of the City of Manila in 1988 and the Most Outstanding Kapampangan in Arts and Architecture in 2010.
