Such heartbreaking news—the Philippines' Centennial Bitaog Tree has finally fallen. Losing a tree that stood for over 500 years feels like losing a living piece of our nation's history.
The first recorded major structural incident involving the iconic Bitaog Centennial Tree in Magallanes, Agusan del Norte, occurred on June 23, 2017. Despite efforts to preserve it, the centuries-old tree finally collapsed on July 13, 2026, due to severe internal decay.
For five centuries, this remarkable tree stood as a silent witness to generations of Filipinos, countless stories, and the changing course of history. Though it has fallen, its legacy will continue to live on in the memories, photographs, and stories it inspired.
