๐ŸŒ If waste could speak, what story would it tell at Port Moresby Nature Park? ๐ŸŽค
โ€œI wasnโ€™t waste; I was waiting.โ€ โ€” Helen Keller โœจ

At the Park, a discarded tin can isn't "rubbish"โ€”itโ€™s a story just getting started! ๐Ÿš€ This Global Recycling Day, we celebrate the theme: โ€œDonโ€™t Think Waste: Think Opportunity.โ€ โ™ป๏ธ๐ŸŒŸ

This Global Recycling Day, we are proud to champion the theme: โ€œDonโ€™t Think Waste: Think Opportunity.โ€ ๐ŸŒŸโ™ป

How we turn "Waste into Opportunity" at the Park: ๐ŸŒฟ

โ€ข ๐ŸŽจ Trash to Treasure: Our life-sized animal sculptures are built from recycled metal and plastic, proving that art can save the planet!
โ€ข ๐ŸŒฑ From Scraps to Gardens: We turn kitchen waste and eggshells into nutrient-rich compost to feed our world-class Orchid collection. ๐ŸŒธ
โ€ข ๐Ÿซ Education Heroes: Our School Excursion programs train the next generation of PNG students to see the value in every scrap. ๐ŸŽ’

๐Ÿ“ข The Challenge:
If an item in your bin could talk, what would it say? ๐Ÿ’ญ

โ€ข An eggshell waiting to feed a beautiful flower?
โ€ข A plastic bottle dreaming of becoming a park sculpture? ๐ŸŒŠ

How to join the movement: ๐Ÿ“
1. Visit us this weekend to see our recycled installations!
2. Share a photo of your DIY recycling project from home.
3. Tag us to show how you're keeping PNG green and clean. ๐Ÿ’Ž๐Ÿ’š

World Wildlife Day:Wild for Wildlife ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ€

This years theme for World Wildlife Day is "Medicinal and Aromatic Plants: Conserving Health, Heritage and Livelihoods". This highlights the importance of flora and the role it plays in human health, cultural traditions and local economies.

To commemorate the day, our education team here at Port Moresby Nature Park have prepared lesson plans around the theme to deliver to the students. The Wild for Wildlife Program runs for 3 weeks beginning on the 2nd of March through to the 20th of March 2026.

We're inviting all schools to attend and learn about Papua New Guinea's diverse biodiversity.
Special thanks to our major sponsors the Sir Brian Bell Foundation for the continued support over the years making it possible for so many students to attend our programs.

Honouring the Green Legacy of our Grand Chief

This February 26, we remember the Late Right Honourable Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare--not just as the Father of our Nation, but as a global champion for our forests and wildlife.

Sir Michael famously transformed PNG into a world leader on climate change. As Kevin Conrad (Coalition for Rainforest Nations) once said:

"...Papua New Guinea is a small Island Nation in the middle of the
Pacific yet it became a global leader on Climate Change and Rainforest because of the vision of one man, Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare..." (Conrad, n.d.).

This vision took flight at the 2005 UN Climate Summit (COP11) in
Montreal, where Sir Michael challenged the world to protect the "lungs of the earth."

Today, the Port Moresby Nature Park carries this torch, protecting over 550 native animals and 1,500 plant species in line with Sir Michael's Vision 2050 for a sustainable future.

On this day of reflection, we are reminded that being a "nation builder" involves guarding the "lungs of the earth" just as much as upholding the Constitution.

United Finance Limited Donates K10,000 to Support Conservation at Port Moresby Nature Park.๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ€

United Finance, a nationally owned financial institution, gives back by supporting Papua New Guinea's unique flora and fauna, reaffirming its
commitment to environmental sustainability. With a generous donation of K10,000--presented as a special Valentines gift on 14th February--this partnership reflects the company's broader commitment to supporting community-based initiatives that create long-term social and
environmental impacts.

As a leading conservation and eco-tourism destination, Port Moresby Nature Park is pleased to have received such a generous donation
dedicated toward boosting the park's conservation work.๐Ÿ’šโ˜˜๏ธ

Hinuvi Onafim, the Group Media and Marketing Manager of United Finance
Limited, stated, "As a national company, we recognize the importance of
preserving our country's natural heritage".

Prior to this generous donation, the company had rescued and delivered two native species to the park. Mr. Hinuvi expressed his hope that this
financial support will be used to strengthen the park's ongoing conservation efforts.

The park has played a vital role over the years in wildlife rescue, breeding programs and environmental education. It welcomes over 150,000 visitors annually, including over 30,000 school children from across the nation's capital and various provinces.
