Introduction to Hela Lions Club Inc.

Hela Lions Club Inc is a community-based humanitarian organization incorporated in Hela Province, operating as part of the global service network of Lions Clubs International under District 201Q2. Guided by the Lions motto β€œWe Serve,” the organization is committed to improving the wellbeing of communities through voluntary service, leadership, and partnerships.

Since its establishment, the club has been actively involved in a wide range of community development initiatives including youth empowerment, peacebuilding, education support, health awareness, climate action, and community service programs. The organization works closely with local communities, schools, churches, and development partners to address social challenges and promote positive change.

Although incorporated in Hela Province, Hela Lions Club Inc has expanded its services beyond its founding province, extending community programs to other parts of Papua New Guinea. As part of this growth, the club has recently opened a branch in Madang Province, demonstrating its commitment to reaching more communities and strengthening volunteer service across the country.

Through its ongoing initiatives and partnerships, Hela Lions Club Inc aims to empower communities, develop youth leadership, and contribute to sustainable development and social harmony throughout Papua New Guinea.

Hela Lions Club Inc. Joins Take 5 Champions Training

Last week, Hela Lions Club Inc. proudly participated in the Take 5 Champions Training of Trainers (TOT) program. This important training was funded by UNFPA and delivered by Wave for Change, a well-established South African organization that uses sport and life skills to empower young people.

The program focuses on building the capacity of youth leaders and community champions to promote positive behavior, wellbeing, gender equality, and safe environments for young people through sport and structured activities.

As one of the participating organizations, Hela Lions Club Inc. is excited to adopt and implement the Take 5 Champions program within our communities. Over the coming months, we plan to introduce this initiative to youth groups and schools, using sport and mentorship to encourage leadership, teamwork, and positive life choices among young people.

We are grateful for the opportunity provided through UNFPA and Wave for Change, and we look forward to working with partners, schools, and communities to empower the next generation of leaders in Hela and Madang Province.

Together, we can build stronger, safer, and more empowered communities through sport and youth leadership.

Climate Action Starts with us
The world is facing rising temperatures, unpredictable rainfall, floods, droughts, and extreme heat waves β€” all linked to climate change. According to the United Nations, urgent action is needed to limit global warming and protect vulnerable communities.

🌍 What Can We Do?
πŸ”Ή Save Energy – Switch to LED lights, energy-efficient appliances, and turn off unused devices.
πŸ”Ή Sustainable Transport – Walk, cycle, carpool, or use public transport.
πŸ”Ή Plant & Protect Trees – Trees absorb carbon dioxide and cool the environment.
πŸ”Ή Water Conservation – Efficient irrigation methods (like drip irrigation) reduce water and energy waste.
πŸ”Ή Support Renewable Energy – Promote solar and wind power in your community.

πŸ’‘ Remember:
Climate action is not only a government responsibility β€” it is a shared duty. Small actions, when multiplied by millions, create real impact.

πŸ“’ β€œThe greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it.”

Let’s act today for a better tomorrow. 🌎✨
