- ITS ON IN SEPTEMBER

Motu Koita Assembly Chairman and Deputy Governor NCD, Hon. Russel Simon Wavik has confirmed through a media conference today at the Motu Koita Assembly Conference Room at City Hall Annex for the hosting of Port Moresby's most exciting cultural event - the Hiri Moale Festival 2026!

Its much bigger and better this year. Significant changes/inclusions noted;

: The event is moved back to September, our original Hiri Moale Celebration month.
: Its scheduled for the week before Independence Week celebrations (8-13 September)- meaning attention within the city will not be diverted.

: Truely a worthwhile and respectful inclusion of the Gulf people in our Celebrations as it was the Gulf people who were at the other end of our Hiri Trade (without them, there wouldn't be any Hiri at all).

: All electorate will send in a Hiri Hanenamo contestant - very inclusive and fair.

: - signifies inclusion and a celebration own for and celebrated by the people - this truely defines the spirit of a festival - should be outdoor and people/community oriented!

: Electorates and their Leaders (Councilors) to bid for the construction, with winners constructing it in their ariara, and not given away to outside contractors ... Honor to build and Benefits to be enjoyed by our people and not outside contractors (non-MotuKoitas).

We all look forward to the event comes September!!!!

Aita moale ... Ita eda sene, ita eda mauri!

Hon. Graeme Nao Boge.

OFFICIAL UPDATE: HAGARA FLOODING & DRAINAGE INSPECTION
|°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°||
Heavy rain and illegal rubbish dumping have severely worsened flooding in Hagara. Blocked drains have caused waste to build up in the main channel, with the outlet to Gabi behind Wayback Trading now completely blocked. This has damaged homes and created serious health risks for families.

Member for Mirigini, Hon. Graeme Boge, warned that anyone caught dumping rubbish illegally will be arrested and charged — without fear or favour. Voting for him, he said, does not excuse lawbreaking. His duty is to protect the entire electorate fairly.

An inspection is complete. The Engineering Team is now preparing an urgent report for City Management. Hon. Boge and Mirigini Ward Development Steering Committee Member Mr Hitolo Lohia will follow up and keep residents updated.

He thanked Mr DK Rahe and Mr Hitolo Lohia for their assistance during the inspection.

The Member urged all residents to stop dumping rubbish in drains and to report offenders. Protecting our drainage is everyone’s responsibility.

PRESS RELEASE

Office of the Elevala Mirigini Electorate
Motu Koita Assembly
Port Moresby

30 March 2025

I, the Honourable Member for the Elevala Mirigini Electorate of the Motu Koita Assembly, wish to assure the public and our community that all actions being taken in Mirigini are fully grounded in law.

The Motu Koita Assembly Act 2007 (No. 7 of 2007) establishes the Motu Koita Assembly as the legitimate government for the Motu Koita people of the National Capital District, pursuant to Section 4 of the Constitution.

The core objectives of the Act under Section 4 are:

to protect and strengthen the identity of the Motu Koita people as the original landowners of the National Capital District;
to promote equal opportunity and popular participation in government by the Motu Koita people;
to provide for the Motu Koita people, especially basic human needs including social order through economic self-reliance; and
to protect customary land and natural resources.

These objectives are supported by , which require strengthening the social, economic and cultural wellbeing of the Motu Koita people, in this case, the Elevala Mirigini Electorate residents and future generations, maintaining traditional knowledge for sustainable development, and upholding ecological integrity.

In Mirigini, our by-laws on
control,
behaviour,
consumption and
disturbances are aligned with these objectives.

Under Section 36(1) of the Act, the Assembly has power to make laws on the;
of alcohol and betel nut (Section 36(1)(n)) and the
environment (Section 36(1)(r)),
among other matters supporting public order.

Our by-laws are not arbitrary; they give practical effect to the Act’s focus on social order and community wellbeing. They will be formally submitted to the Motu Koita Assembly for adoption to ensure full legal enforcement.

In the meantime, we will continue working with the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary, village courts and community leaders to maintain peace.

Excessive noise, drunken behaviour, public disturbances and actions disrupting families will not be tolerated in Mirigini.

This community will be governed with respect, order and accountability in accordance with the Motu Koita Assembly Act 2007.

Honourable Graham Nao Boge
Member for Elevala Mirigini Electorate
