PNG CCFI COMPLETES CENTRAL PROVINCE FARM SITE ASSESSMENTS

The Papua New Guinea Climate Change & Farmers Institute (PNG CCFI) is pleased to officially announce the successful completion of all scheduled farm site assessments under the Central Province Pig Breeding Stock Distribution Pilot Project 2026, with field assessments concluded as of 30 August 2026.

The completion marks a significant milestone and formally closes Phase 1 – Farmer Mobilisation, Registration & Farm Site Assessment.

The program commenced with farmer Expressions of Interest and progressed through registration, payment processing, Information Pack administration and physical farm assessments. The assessment process examined critical areas including land availability, pig housing, water supply, biosecurity and farmer commitment.

PNG CCFI sincerely acknowledges the participating farmers, families and communities, together with our Project Team, whose commitment made the field assessment program possible.

Our officers travelled directly into farming communities to better understand the practical realities faced by farmers and determine their preparedness to develop sustainable pig breeding enterprises.

Moving into Phase 2

With site assessments completed, PNG CCFI will now progress into Phase 2 – Farmer Evaluation, Selection & Readiness.

Assessment information will be consolidated and reviewed before individual farmers are formally advised of their outcomes. Selection will consider factors including land availability, pig housing, water supply, farmer commitment, farm management and overall program capacity.

PNG CCFI emphasises that this initiative is not simply about distributing pigs. It is about developing capable farmers, strengthening rural livelihoods, improving local livestock production and building a sustainable farmer-development model that can contribute to the long-term food security of Central Province and Papua New Guinea.

PNG CCFI COMPLETES CENTRAL PROVINCE FARM SITE ASSESSMENTS

The PNG Climate Change & Farmers Institute (PNG CCFI) has successfully completed the Farm Site Assessment phase of the Central Province Pig Breeding Stock Distribution Pilot Project 2026.

The program commenced with 32 Expressions of Interest, with committed farmers progressing through registration, EOI payment, information processing and physical farm site assessments.

Our assessment teams travelled directly into farming communities to understand the realities on the ground and assess each participating farmer's readiness to establish and sustainably manage a pig breeding enterprise.

With the assessment phase now completed, PNG CCFI moves into evaluation and farmer selection, followed by technical guidance, farmer preparation and implementation of the proposed 3–5 sow breeding units.

This pilot is not simply about distributing pigs. It is about developing capable farmers, strengthening rural livelihoods, increasing local livestock production and creating a model that can grow beyond Central Province.

Central Province and Papua New Guinea need productive farmers, stronger rural communities and greater local food production.

Through our principle of “Farmers Helping Farmers,” PNG CCFI is building a practical pathway where knowledge, resources and opportunities are shared — strengthening livelihoods and securing PNG’s food future, one farmer at a time.

PNG CCFI COMMENDS PNG AGRICULTURE FESTIVAL 2026

PNG Climate Change & Farmers Institute (PNG CCFI) commends Mr Wilson Orlegge Thompson , OBE, ML, President of the Highlands Farmers & Settlers Association Inc., and his team for bringing together the PNG Agriculture Festival, 28–30 August 2026 in Goroka.

This is more than a celebration—it is a call to get agriculture moving from the village level up.

With increasing climate pressures, including El Niño and prolonged dry periods, our farmers must be encouraged to start with what they have: land, water, local knowledge and family labour.

Start small. Plant food. Raise livestock. Harvest water. Keep records. Find markets. Grow commercially.

The Papua New Guinea Climate Change & Farmers Institute (PNG CCFI) sincerely thanks every farmer who has expressed interest in participating in the Central Province Pig Breeding Stock Distribution Pilot Project 2026.

The response from farming communities across Central Province has been encouraging and reflects a shared commitment to strengthening food security, creating sustainable livelihoods, and building resilient farming communities.

Please be advised that today, Friday, 31 July 2026, is the official closing date for Expressions of Interest (EOIs) for this pilot project. Applications will close at 4:06 PM today. We kindly ask all applicants who have not yet completed their submissions to do so before the closing time.

Following the close of applications, PNG CCFI will commence the farm site assessment phase, where our assessment team will visit eligible applicants to verify farm information and assess readiness for participation in the pilot project.

We thank every farmer, community leader, supporter, and partner who has contributed to making this initiative possible. Your participation is helping lay the foundation for a stronger and more sustainable livestock sector in Central Province.
