Today we commemorate the National Disability Day for all persons with disabilities. We appreciate the collaboration with Cheshire Disability Services for organizing this event.

With the team, " Give to Gain", perfectly captures the heart of our community. Inclusion is never a one-way thing, when we give our support, advocacy, and space, we gain so much in return - new perspectives, incredible talent, and a stronger, more united society.

Let's commit to building a world where everyone has the opportunity to contribute and grow. Together, we all strive!

Ensuring a Barrier Free Port Moresby city.
The NCD Diff-Abilities Advocacy Agency (NCD DAA) team has been on the ground in the suburb of Hohola - Port Moresby Northwest District conducting a trial access audit under its Disability Rights Advocacy Fund (DRAF) project. The project implementation focusing on access audit is to ensure our community in Hohola is inclusive of everyone.

Our team comprising of persons with various disability conditions evaluated key public spaces to see how accessible they truly are for persons with disabilities. From the Hohola Health Centre and Police Station to the busy public market and shopping centers, we looked at every detail.

What we Audited:
- Safe Entry: Ramps, entrance widths, and handrails at essential services.

- Moving Around: The condition of footpaths, the usability of the overhead bridge, and access to public bus stops.

- Service Access: How easily our community members can navigate counters and facilities once inside.

Accessibility is our rights, it is not a privilege. By identifying these barriers, we are working towards a Port Moresby city where Universal Design means everyone can move with dignity and independence.

The NCD DAA team will now proceed on to carrying out the actual accessibility audits throughout selected sites within the 3 Districts of the National Capital District (NCD).

NCD DAA's project overview is focused on addressing the exclusions of persons with disabilities especially women and girls from mainstream gender-based violence, prevention and response services in the National Capital District (NCD) that will be implemented by NCD DAA. The project will embed disability inclusive strategies within GBV programs, strengthen service provider capacity and advocate for systemic reforms to ensure equal access to protection, support, and injustice for survivors with disabilities. NCD DAA's goal is to enhance the accessibility, responsiveness, and inclusivity of GBV programs and services for persons with disabilities in NCD.
