🌪️ *Cyclone Maila* – Urgent Support Needed

According to some sources, Cyclone Maila has battered the Solomon Sea and Eastern Milne Bay for over a week, bringing winds up to 250 km/h and waves over 11 metres. Severe damage, flooding, and loss of lives have been reported in Bougainville and surrounding regions, with many remote island communities still cut off.

Some Relief efforts are being mobilised. A friend of Rotary, Dr Barry under the THOR program team are preparing to reach the outer islands — including Woodlark, Rossell, Namoa, and the vulnerable Budi Budi atoll — to evacuate critical cases and deliver emergency supplies.

The Rotary Club of Boroko, friends and some partners have already prepared family relief packs with essential food and basic supplies. However, much more is needed due to the number of affected areas.

Needed supports are:
• Donations to fund additional relief supplies
• Assistance with fuel (avgas) for rescue and supply flights
• Any contributions to help reach isolated communities

Every contribution can help save lives and bring relief to families who have endured over a week of extreme conditions.

The RCB in Arawa donated white linen and emergency stretcher to the people of kongara as relief in response to the disaster caused by calamity. There are reported casualties and some are still missing but the numbers cannot be officially confirmed yet.

RCB had assisted another friend to move around after a stroke by giving him a wheelchair. It helps the family to bring him around for his theraphy sessions and follow-up check-ups. Thank you Rotary Wheelchair Foundation… jct
