THE DREAMS IN OUR CLASSROOM
When we sat down and talked with our Grade 8 students at Hood Lagoon Primary School, we saw it.
Ambition.
Dreams.
Fire.
They want to be doctors, teachers, lawyers, aircraft engineers, air hostesses, mining engineers.
And I want to help make those dreams a reality.
But the truth is, our students are facing challenges that most rural schools face.
- Lack of teaching staff
- No ink for printing learning materials
- And for many, finding time to study is hard because back in the village, household chores are just as important. That’s how families make ends meet.
Hood Lagoon Primary has a proud history. This school has produced leaders we all look up to:
Ila Geno, former Ombudsman Commissioner.
Snr Raka Taviri, a well respected leader in entrepreneurship.
Hon. Ano Pala, Member for Rigo District.
Late Sir Mari Kapi, former Chief Justice.
Late Vere Ravu, former Evangelism leader and accountant.
My grandfather, Mea Mavu, Chief of Maro’one Clan and a prominent leader.
And many more.
HLPS continues to produce exceptional students. But the number passing out to Grade 8 has dropped. And even for those who make it past Grade 8, focus, motivation and hope is often lost in high school.
Why? Because the high school they are sent to makes them want to give up. Teachers don’t attend class. There isn’t enough food in the mess. Poor infrastructure in boarding schools.
We refuse to let that be the end of the story.
We are here to help the best way we can. From Grade 8 tutoring, to study support, all the way to helping our students get into universities after Grade 12.
This is for our KAK children. For their dreams. For the legacy of Hood Lagoon.
If you believe in them too, join us on this journey.
