πŸŽ—οΈ Clinical Nurse Specialist Recognition Week 2026

Dear PaNGONA Members and Oncology Nursing Colleagues,

As we observe Clinical Nurse Specialist Recognition Week, PaNGONA joins the global nursing community in recognising nurses who are advancing specialised clinical practice and improving outcomes for patients and families.

For Papua New Guinea πŸ‡΅πŸ‡¬, this recognition is particularly important as we continue working toward strengthening oncology nursing as a specialised area of practice.

Cancer care requires nurses with specialised knowledge and competencies in chemotherapy and systemic anticancer therapy, symptom and toxicity management, radiation oncology, paediatric oncology, palliative and supportive care, survivorship, patient education, research and leadership.

To every PaNGONA member: continue learning, continue developing your clinical expertise, and continue advocating for high-quality cancer nursing care. The knowledge and skills we build today will shape the future of oncology nursing in PNG.

Our patients deserve nurses who are knowledgeable, competent, compassionate and empowered. πŸŽ—οΈπŸ’™
Strong specialist nurses. Stronger cancer services. Better patient outcomes.

Happy Clinical Nurse Specialist Recognition Week! πŸ‘πŸ‡΅πŸ‡¬

Grief doesn’t always wait for death to arrive.

It can begin quietly, unfolding in layers as we anticipate loss.

When someone enters palliative care, families may begin mourning who their loved one used to be, the future they’d planned together, and relationships that start to change shape.

We first shared β€˜Understanding anticipatory grief’ in November 2025, exploring insights from Chris Hall AM, CEO of Grief Australia, alongside research from Dr Priyanka Vandersman at Flinders University University.

This Grief Awareness Month, we’re revisiting the story to explore what anticipatory grief can look like and what meaningful support can look like for families and carers.

πŸŽ—οΈ September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month πŸŽ—οΈ

Every 3 minutes, a child is diagnosed with cancer.
That’s an estimated 400,000 children and adolescents worldwide every year.
Behind every statistic is a child who just wants to go to school, play, and grow up.

This month we wear GOLD to honor the kids fighting, remember those we’ve lost, and support the families who are so strong.

How you can help:
1. Learn the signs and symptoms
2. Support local families and hospitals
3. Donate to childhood cancer research
4. Share to spread awareness

No child should fight alone. Let’s go GOLD this September

πŸ’› GOLD SEPTEMBER 2026 πŸ’›
Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

Throughout September, the Papua New Guinea Oncology Nurses’ Association (PaNGONA) and its Paediatric Oncology Nursing Network join the global community in raising awareness of childhood cancer.

Every child and adolescent affected by cancer deserves:

πŸ’› Early and accurate diagnosis
πŸ’› Timely access to treatment
πŸ’› Safe, compassionate nursing care
πŸ’› Emotional and practical family support
πŸ’› Hope for survival and a healthy future

We honour the courage of children and adolescents living with cancer, remember those we have lost, and stand beside their families and caregivers. We also recognise the dedicated paediatric oncology nurses and healthcare professionals caring for them across Papua New Guinea.

Together, let us raise awareness, strengthen childhood cancer services and ensure that no child faces cancer alone.

Go Gold for Childhood Cancer!
