Skelim SAVE

Skelim SAVE We believe no child in PNG should be left behind in their education We use LEM phonics with a few PNG adaptations.

Our model is to up-skill teachers and train community representatives to teach their own people how to read and write English. We also run training on early childhood development and how to raise smart kids. Learning starts when life begins, not just when a child enters school so we help parents and other care-givers understand what they can do to give their child the best start in life. We are al

so road-testing a hands-on practical numeracy program that is especially developed for where there are no schools, classroom or textbooks as many kids in PNG are in remote areas or settlements where they do not have access to schools. We want each child to have a hope and a future and know that they can play their part in contributing to PNG's future.

For those interested in further training and in the early childhood space, there is a launch of a new nationwide program that is taking place on Monday, 20th of July at the RMCN International base at Vadavada on Taurama Road. The program starts at 9am and finishes at 3pm. This should be very informative and I encourage interested people to see what opportunities there are coming up in this area.

These photos are from the closing of the Batch 1, 2 week literacy and early childhood training at Kavieng last week. We were honoured to have the Deputy Governor of New Ireland attend along with other dignitaries. A big congratulations to the participants who studied hard for 2 solid weeks and who learnt to run beginner literacy lessons for beginners. We look forward to seeing you down the track and giving you the next module which will up-skill you to take your young learners even further in their literacy journey.

For over a year Hevilift have been helping transport early childhood resources to the Highlands for Skelim Save. Last week they transported an Israeli biogas toilet for a new teacher's training college in Dei District. They have done all of this, free of charge to help the people of Papua New Guinea. Today we want to celebrate Hevilift and let them know that we appreciate all that they do to help make PNG a better and fairer place for all.
