Creating Pathways to Peace and Opportunity in Hela Province

The Digicel PNG Foundation presented a K50,000 cheque to Hela Peace Foundation Inc. for a new community development initiative in Henganda Village, Tagali LLG, Tari-Pori District, Hela Province, through its Community Grants Program. The project will support the establishment of a Community Resources Centre, providing a dedicated space for education, skills development, agricultural training, and peace-building activities for the community.

Led by the Hela Peace Foundation Inc, the project aims to address key challenges facing the community, including limited access to learning opportunities, youth unemployment, poverty, and ongoing tribal conflict. Once completed, the centre will serve as a hub for literacy programs, vocational training, women's and youth empowerment initiatives, and agricultural extension services to improve food security and livelihoods.

The Community Resources Centre is expected to benefit more than 5,000 people across the area and will create opportunities for community members to gain practical skills, access training, and participate in initiatives that promote peace and social cohesion.
President of Hela Peace Foundation Inc, Roselyn Irabu thank Digicel PNG Foundation for believing in this project. “This Community Resource Center will bring our people together to learn, grow, build livelihoods, in order to work together towards lasting peace and development for future generations.”

2026 Community Grant Recipients Receive Funding Support

Following the successful 2026 Community Grants Workshop, Digicel PNG Foundation officially presented grant funding to its 2026 Community Grants recipients, marking the beginning of another exciting chapter of community-led development across Papua New Guinea.

The cheque presentation ceremony was attended by Digicel PNG Foundation Board Chairlady Susil Nelson-Kongoi, Board Directors Lorna McPherson and Helen Gegeyo, and representing Digicel Business was Abdallah Nassar, who joined recipients in celebrating their commitment to delivering meaningful change in their communities.

On behalf of the Foundation Board of Management, Susil Nelson-Kongoi said, "Seeing our grant recipients come together for the workshop and receive their funding is a reminder of the difference that community-led development can make. We look forward to supporting these organisations as they deliver projects that create lasting benefits for the people they serve."

This year's Community Grants Program will see K1.3 million invested in 24 local organizations, supporting projects focused on quality primary healthcare, inclusive education, water and sanitation, community safety, financial literacy, and economic empowerment.

We congratulate all grant recipients and look forward to seeing the positive impact their projects will have in communities across Papua New Guinea.
