Don & Cheri Floyd in Papua New Guinea and Beyond

Don & Cheri Floyd in Papua New Guinea and Beyond Community Development, Ministries of Compassion, and Leadership Empowerment. Don is a trained carpenter and building contractor from Australia.

Cheri has a biology degree from America and is currently working on a master's in Adult Basic Education. We met here in Papua New Guinea as mission volunteers in the 1980's. We married and began full-time service in PNG in 1991. We support the PNG congregations by training others - in diverse areas such as carpentry, bookkeeping, English as a Second Language, health education, etc.

In the domestic departure lounge on our way back home to Mt Hagen.

While on the coast, we made great progress on one bureaucratic task, and some progress on others. You can't win them all. We also enjoyed a few days break in Madang.

Now we're going back to Hagen to meet with local pastors about using apps to track church records, helping the Bible College with their solar system, and especially preparing to host a team of volunteers from Northridge Wesleyan Church in Ohio.

Please pray for safe travels for the team and for good continuing progress on fire recovery building at the Bible College.

It is the end of week 7 and students are making great progress in their classes.

When they arrived at WBC, some first year students had no experience typing on a computer. Now they can type and save assignments. This week they even started preparing timetables.

Well done to WBC's hardworking lecturers and students.

From Cheri: I stepped out and heard music. I knew immediately it was coming from the classroom where Andy Kela is teaching a 6-credit course on the Gospels. This is good theological education; rigorous teaching that leads to heartfelt worship and renewed commitment to follow Jesus.

While I ordered 22 tonnes of cement blocks for a building project today, Cheri and the workers were busy story-ing in Tok Pisin. They all said where they're originally from. Then the workers wanted to know how long we've been here and how Cheri and I met. Everyone enjoyed looking at photos on Cheri's phone. They wanted to see how we looked as a young couple in PNG. And they enjoyed seeing a photo of our three sons and our daughter-in-law.

In PNG there's almost always time to get to know a person better. It's one of the bonuses of living here.

South of the equator, many of us are starting the new academic year. Today we are praying for our brothers and sisters at the Bible College in Magelang, Indonesia, who start classes on Monday, February 2.

Our time in Australia is coming to an end. Cheri is recovering well from a December surgical procedure. We spent time with all my siblings and many of the extended family. Two of our sons and our daughter-in-law who flew over to join us have already departed Australia.

Tonight we catch the overnight train from Coffs Harbour.
Our Thursday, January 15 program is:
- arriving in Brisbane in the early hours of the morning
- a quick breakfast meeting with a missions committee member from a supporting church
- fly Brisbane-Pt Moresby
- Pt Moresby-Mt Hagen
- hoping to sleep in our own bed in PNG, in readiness for theological education meetings the next morning

If you are a pray-er, please pray for safe travels and good connections with people we meet along the way.

From Cheri: Back in early July I shared a 6 month overview of my travel. As 2025 draws to a close, here's the whole year's update. I see that I changed my sleeping location 110 times this year.
- that averages out to changing the location of my toothbrush just over twice a week
- we did often cycle between two locations in PNG (Western Highlands and Jiwaka)
- I would guess the lowest quality of sleep was on the 6 overnight flights and 1 overnight train
- 8 countries visited (not counting the ones where I never left the airport)
- our longest time without changing the location of our toothbrush is happening right now. We're ending 2025 with 19 consecutive nights in one spot. We're in Coffs Harbour, Australia. I had a day surgery prior to Christmas (hernia repair) and have been recuperating nicely while enjoying lots of time with extended family.

Thank you for your prayers and friendship this year. Although the regional director ministry responsibilities come with a travel budget, we have still relied on your prayers for daily strength and wisdom. Your support has fed and clothed us along the way, and made several ministry projects possible in 2025.

Don and I pray for God's peace and wisdom to reign in each of your lives in 2026.
