We are proud to share a resilient and humble meri Morobe. Sheila Harou of the Wafi-Golpu Joint Venture continues to make a meaningful impact across communities in Morobe Province through her work in social performance and community development. Originally from Au Village in the Waria Valley, Sheila has spent more than seven years supporting initiatives focused on clean water, sanitation, hygiene, and sustainable community partnerships. Her leadership and commitment to empowering communities reflect her passion for creating long-term positive change. Sheila is also a proud member of the PNG Australia Alumni Association and a former President of the Morobe Chapter, where she has contributed strongly to professional development, leadership, and community engagement within the alumni network.
At Wafi-Golpu Joint Venture, our commitment to long-term community value is driven by dedicated professionals like Sheila Harou, our Senior Social Performance and External Affairs Advisor.
Hailing from Au Village in the Waria Valley, Morobe Province, Sheila has been a key contributor to the project for over 7 years, bringing extensive experience from her previous role within the Morobe Provincial Administration.
Her work focuses on improving lives on the ground. “We have delivered 10 WaSH projects bringing clean water, better sanitation, and improved hygiene practices to communities across the project footprint,” Sheila says. “This is what makes my time here very enjoyable and worthwhile.”
Sheila has been instrumental in growing our Mining Chocolate program to drive a lasting impact on farmers. “We are constantly working with our key partners in improving our social investment programs. So yes, the company value of collaboration is a value I admire and practice daily to co-create solutions that are culturally appropriate and economically viable.”
But beyond programs, it’s her ability to connect people, build partnerships, and create shared solutions that defines her impact. Looking ahead, Sheila hopes to see the Wafi-Golpu Project progress through permitting so these programs can expand further and reach even more communities.
When it comes to safety and responsibility, her message goes beyond the workplace. “True impact comes from accountability, strong partnerships, and empowering communities to take ownership so the benefits last well beyond the project.”
Thank you, Sheila, for your leadership, commitment, and the positive impact you continue to drive across our communities.
