Haisi Primary School is located in the South-Western part of the Bougainville Island in Papua New Guinea. The school was established in 1963 by the early catholic missionaries. During the Bougainville Crisis, it was closed and the classrooms were used as shelter for the civilians by the fighters from both factions. As time went on and the fighting slowly found its easing point and the school re-opened but didnt have a school librray yet. That is the project that the parents and cictizens of the school are now undertaking with the help of the Kokoda Track Foundation, the Haisians leaving in other centers and others.

Rest In Peace Late Sir Peter Barter

Condolence Message from the Office of the President on the passing of the Late Sir Peter Barter

I am saddened to learn of the passing of the former Governor for Madang Province Sir Peter Barter. The Late Sir Peter Barter was a statesman, businessman and peacemaker.

Bougainville will remember the Late Sir Peter Barter as a peacemaker. A man who braved the tumultuous years of the Bougainville Crisis to help to secure peace on Bougainville during the late 1990โ€™s.

He contributed tirelessly to the peace process and played a leading role in laying the very first foundations of the Autonomous Bougainville Government. Prior to the formation of the ABG on June 15, 2005 he was in Bougainville to assist with the elections and to ensure there was a smooth transition to autonomy.

The people and government of Bougainville are greatly indebted to this great man for his selflessness and acts of kindness. We will remember him as a man who saw no color nor creed but a man who believed in humanity's ability to forgive, respect and love.

On behalf of the Autonomous Bougainville Government and the people of Bougainville I offer our most heartfelt condolences to the family of the Late Sir Peter Barter.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.

Hon. Ishmael Toroama
President
