67 Rats, 16 Possums and 2 Stoats. Yes you heard it right! Over the last four months, our predator trapping program along the Waiarohia Stream has been delivering some impressive results. That's 85 predators removed from our local environment.

We're already seeing encouraging signs. During our monthly Reserve Mahi at Waiarohia, we spotted a pīwakawaka. A wonderful sign that our mahi is making a difference for native species. Thanks Pat Hooper and Ian McNeill from Herald Island Environmental Group joining us last Saturday.

A huge thanks to Sam Townshend, who has taken over trap servicing and is doing an amazing job keeping on top of it.

We need more hands to take on this community-led conservation efforts - neighbours coming together, checking traps, pulling w**ds, and watching the bush come back to life.

Want to get involved? Our next Reserve Mahi is on Sunday 19th April, 3 –5 PM at Waiarohia Stream (entrance through 167 Brigham Creek Road). Come along - the more hands the better! 🙌

Thanks so much to Pat and Lisa for helping us tackle the moth plants this morning!

Action now: If you have moth plants on your property, check for pods NOW! If you see them, collect them immediately to stop them from spreading.

How to kill the plant:
Cut the vine near the base (closest to the root possible).
Paste Metgel (see the image) on the cut stump.
