Here we’re joined by Grounded HQ, a local civil company that’s making a real impact here in Whanganui.

Big mihi to the Grounded HQ crew for the work they’re doing in our community and for jumping on the mic with us.

Emergency dredging works begin this week in the Whanganui Port basin, following approval of a one-off consent variation.

These works are required to enable a clear channel in the Whanganui Port Basin. Without which, local businesses would face significant disruption, putting jobs and the wider Te Pūwaha project at risk.

All dredging will be carried out under strict environmental safeguards, with hapū oversight and independent monitoring to protect Te Awa Tupua and Atutahi (whitebait).

Works are expected to be completed by the end of October. The Wharf Street boat ramp will remain open, with short closures possible.

The Murphy’s Civil dredge will continue to work at the travel lift area, which means the Wharf Street boat ramp will remain closed due to stockpiling within the channel. We will open the boat ramp once their works are complete. Thanks boat operators for your patience.
