Many people have trees with fruit that they don't use. Fruit is often left to rot on the ground - This group exists to make it easy for fruit tree owners to share this fruit. There are people on our own doorstep, in our own community that would very gratefully receive the excess fruit we have. With the price of fresh produce skyrocketing people are struggling - this is a way we can all help others
in our community! Inspired by and connected to the very successful Community Fruit Harvest - Auckland, we aim to make a difference but we need your help. We will do this by inviting volunteers to register their interest in picking fruit from trees in the neighbourhood for the elderly, disabled or people who simply don't want the fruit from their own fruit trees and are happy to donate it to charity. The fruit will be shared with the owner of the fruit tree and the rest distributed to a charity such as the local foodbank/s or other needy charities, retirement villages etc. If you are able to donate your time, fruit or equipment please contact us at [email protected] or text 0211019007. We are very grateful for any offers of help. The specific needs at this stage are for:
* Volunteers - for picking and preserving, delivering flyers, liaising with charity groups to receive fruit, anything else you can practically assist with.
* Trees - if you have a tree with excess fruit and you'd like us to collect it. Or if you have collected your own fruit you would like to donate we will happily receive it, we will also gladly accept fresh vegetables. We don't want to take all of your fruit, we don't want to leave you with none - just let us know what we can take.
* Any Equipment that you could think of that would help people pick fruit efficiently and effectively.
* Let us know if your charity or organisation is in need of fresh fruit, or you know someone who is.
* Help spreading the word!
