Whakatane Blue Light Whakatane Blue Light aims to support young people and families to live in a safe community that offers alcohol, drug and violence free opportunities.

New Zealand Blue Light is a registered charity and community policing youth program that for over 30 years has run programs and activities for young people throughout New Zealand free from drugs, alcohol and violence. Blue Light works closely with the New Zealand Police to:

Reduce youth crime

Build community partnerships

Build young peoples self esteem

Enhance community safety

Build positive youth and police partnerships

Blue Light aims to reduce young people becoming an offender or victim of crime and to build better relations between the police, young people, their parents and the community. Blue Light encourages safe and healthy socialisation for young people with all Blue Light events being alcohol, drug and violence free; in todays society who else can guarantee this and that is why parents and the community totally trust and support Blue Light activities for their children.

📢 Kia ora koutou Whakatāne!

I am the new Whakatāne Blue Light coordinator, taking over from the longstanding local legend Mr Rich Hamer. Rich is now leading the charge as the Community Safety Advisor at Whakatāne District Council. So don't worry, you'll still see him flying around town on his 🚲, wearing his many different 🎩 (bike helmet ontop of these of course 😉)

After having lived outside the EBOP for a while, it feels great to be back home. I'm excited about getting to know many of you in person over time, running some fun community events and fun trips with school groups in our stunning natural settings 🌅👌

Just wanted to reach out and say hi and so people know who this Fafa guy is (FB doesnt like my real name). Now you know what I look like, make sure to say hi if you see me around. 😎

I'm really keen to hear all of your ideas about effective ways to get rangatahi/youth positively engaged in the community, especially from teens and young adults 🗯👂🙌

I also want to know what kind of events our young people would like to see, other than parties❓ So if you have some great ideas, don't be shy, come korero! 🗣💫🤙

Excited to see what as a community we can bring to life in the EBOP!

Mauri tū mauri ora (An active soul is a healthy soul) 🚴🏄‍♂️🛶💪❤

Mā te wā,

Felix (aka Fafa)
