30/05/26 Food Distribution
Today, EKTA celebrated Eid al-Adha, a significant day in the Islamic calendar that honors the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ismail. This occasion is about giving thanks, charity, and kindness. As part of our efforts to give back to the community, we distributed Veg pizza, dessert, milk, groceries, fruits, tea, and coffee to those in need in Wellington. To distribute this food we were joined by respected members of the muslim community.

On 14 May, a team of Ekta volunteers and executive committee members visited Wellington City Council to present their submission on the Annual Plan.

It's important to have a say on what's important!

Our message, in summary, was: "Where savings can be made, make them. Where spending can be deferred, defer them. And measure every activity against the question: Does this deliver real, practical value to the ratepayers of Wellington?"

Ekta is proud to launch *The Sound of Us* - a cross-cultural community choir!

This is a pilot community music programme designed to strengthen social cohesion, belonging, and intercultural
understanding through collaborative musical participation.

The programme brings together adults aged 18+ from diverse ethnic, faith, and cultural communities. By working together on a shared creative project, participants move beyond cultural boundaries and develop relationships based on cooperation and shared experience.

The initiative is designed as a pilot programme to test a replicable model that can be delivered in neighbourhoods across the country. The Sound of Us will demonstrate how collaborative creative activity can build relationships, reduce social distance, and strengthen social cohesion in diverse communities.

The Sound of Us has been designed as a modular programme comprising:
• Core Module: Community Choir
• Enhancement Module: Instrumental Ensemble (ideally integrated with choir)

The 8-week programme will culminate in a community performance and recording, accompanied by participant stories and visual collateral that support future replication and national rollout.

See the flyers below in different languages, and please share with your networks. We will soon be finalizing the location and time for the 8-week programme, but you can start registering your interest with us.
