We truly appreciate your support and look forward to continue working with you in the future.
We hope other HoMs especially those with large migrant numbers step forward and set an example for their communities to follow. Cohesion n greater acceptance will be there when we go beyond just advocating to taking action and are seen to be doing what we advocate.

Food distribution 22/08/26

Oneness or ekta cannot be achieved only through advocacy, it has to be achieved through actions. Since May 2019 Ekta NZ Inc volunteers coming from various faiths, cultures, languages, nationalities, and economic backgrounds have been in the Courtney/Manners St vicinity every single Saturday afternoon giving out kai to an equally diverse group of people.

The queue starts from the front of the Opera House and stretches upto the Taranaki St junction. From a single row we now have 2 rows to avoid the overflow. Yesterday we served over 250 people and all done within a space of less than an hour.

It is not only the diversity of people, but it has also created a platform for various organisations and businesses to give back to the community through hosting of a hot meal. Yesterday the Pakistan Association of Wellington (PAWNZ) and the Pakistan High Commission commemorated their Independence Day by hosting the meal and volunteering in the distribution. And we also had volunteers from India giving out the kai! This is ekta or oneness, the social cohesion we need.

A big shout to Mr Nawab Ali Rahoojo Dy High Commissioner, Mr Muhamad Shafique of the High Commission, Cr Ray Chung and all the PAWNZ members who joined us in the distribution. Cr Ray Chung has been a regular volunteer not only at this distribution but also at other sites where we give out kai.
