NZ Fabian Society INCITING DEBATE WERO I TE AHI Initially, we will focus on the fundamental requirement that New Zealand shapes a sustainable economic future for itself.

The Fabian Society is an independent membership-based policy forum that aims to provide a forum for education and debate on progressive policy priorities by providing quality events, publications and research. Via a series of lectures and seminars, we will provide a forum for critiquing the prevailing economic orthodoxy and the advocacy of viable alternatives and reforms.

‼️POSTPONED DUE TO WEATHER‼️, NEW DATE IS 12TH MAY, 6PM, ST PETERS ON WILLIS ( #211)

We’ve endured more than 40 years of neoliberal economics, of privatization and plunder.

How do we shake off the millstone? And what do we replace it with?

How do we return to a focus on the long-term public good, rather than short-term corporate profit? How can we plan our economy to work for the many, and not just the few?

The Greens want economic transformation, an economy that works for everyone instead of exhausting and exploiting our people and planet. Last year they produced an alternative budget, an alternative fiscal strategy, and an industrial strategy.

Chlöe Swarbrick went to the UK late last year and met many leading left-wing thinkers – including Thomas Piketty, Yanis Varoufakis, Mariana Mazzucato, Daniela Gabor, and Gary Stevenson. (Listen to Chlöe on Gary’s economics here)

Chlöe will speak about how we might break with the current narrow fiscal and economic orthodoxy and build a stronger and more equitable future for Aotearoa New Zealand.

The session will be chaired by Max Rashbrooke.
