Te Kura Roa 2024 - Highlights

It’s been 6 weeks since Te Kura Roa 2024 and so much has been happening in the background. As we prepare to release our report from the hui and launch some key actions from the gathering we wanted to share this awesome preview of our two days together. Thank you to all who came out and contributed to some big discussions. It ain’t over yet! We are sharing more resources and opportunities to carry on planning strategising and envisioning for our future.

Te Kura Roa was born out of a need to reimagine the research, science, and innovation system where mātauranga Māori would be more valued, drawn on, and interwoven into all that we do. This gathering enabled us to share experiences and knowledge, deepen our connections, and plan for the future. We are activated and ready to push forward.

He wānanga a Tai-o-Rongo. He wānanga e whakatupu ana i te tūhonotanga a te tangata ki te ao tūroa mā te mahi kai me te tirotiro ki te taiao me hōna kōrero. Tai-o-Rongo is a taiao based movement. It is a wānanga. It uses tūpuna wisdom to foster reconnection to taiao, mahi kai and weather observation. This is done through the revival of seasonal ceremonies throughout the year to achieve holistic wellness.

In the face of adversity, we must be astute and hold true to our tupuna wisdom with a focus firmly on the future for our mokopuna. This kōrero comes as a timely reminder today, the final day for submissions to the Fast Track Approvals Bill. Professor Leonie Pihama reminds us that for generations, te pene raupatu has attempted to eradicate us and our histories. Today, we have the opportunity to wade into the process and use our voices. Tukuna.
