Some lives begin with every reason to give up. Charlie’s was one of them.

From the very beginning, his story was marked by serious health challenges and incredibly difficult circumstances — the kind many would say are too much to overcome.
But Charlie fought.

And so did Anna — choosing a path that gave him a chance at life, through adoption.

Today, Charlie’s story is a reminder that even the smallest, most vulnerable lives can carry incredible strength… and that choosing life, even when it’s hard, can lead to something deeply meaningful.

Charlie is now nearly five.

He loves drawing. He looks up to his older brothers. He brings energy, questions, and joy into his family every day.

His life includes challenges. But it also includes everything else — connection, growth, laughter, love. His story doesn’t deny suffering.

It asks a different question: What might we lose when we assume a difficult life isn’t worth living?

We’re often told that in the hardest circumstances, abortion is the most compassionate option. But what if there’s another path — one that brings good for both mother and child?

Today, we’re sharing the amazing story of a Hamilton family, who adopted their youngest son Charlie, who’s now 5.

Charlie’s beginning reflects situations many use to justify abortion — serious health concerns and pregnancy through sexual assault. Circumstances often seen as having no good outcome. And yet, their story tells something very different.

Read why adoption was chosen, what that looked like in real life, and how that decision brought not only life for Charlie, but healing and ongoing connection for adoptive mum Anna as well.

Even in the most difficult beginnings, there can still be a path forward that honours both lives.
