"The strong advocacy of the New Zealand Deerstalkers Association (NZDA) was key to the establishment of these areas and the creation of RHAs remains one of the important achievements of organised recreational hunting advocacy in New Zealand."

The NZ Game Animal Council, with local knowledge from NZDA branches around the country, has put together a directory covering all eight Recreational Hunting Areas. Each one has key access points, hut information, notes on the forest and terrain, and handy tips to make planning your next trip easier.

The Haurangi (Aorangi) Recreational Hunting Area (RHA) covers the full Aorangi Forest Park in the southern Wairarapa. It offers rewarding hill-country hunting for red and fallow deer, as well as multi-day backcountry trips in close proximity to our capital city.

Established in the early and mid-1980’s, RHAs are some of the most important public land hunting areas where recreational hunters can enjoy and harvest from without commercial competition.
