We are the National body representing and speaking for recreational hunters. We believe that the organisation and management of recreational hunting in New Zealand should be carried out by sportsmen and sportswomen. We oppose commercial exploita

tion of the wildlife and natural resources of New Zealand, wherever and whenever such action is deemed to jeopardise, restrict or conflict with the public usage thereof, or to be contrary to sound conservation practice. We strive to foster interest in native flora and fauna and the conservation of the same.

Know your rifle and ballistics. Longer shots are common. You need to know your effective range, drop, and wind drift. Guessing has no place here. This requires hours of practice on a range and an understanding of your rifle, scope, and bullet combination, plus your own shooting abilities and limitations. Always be an ethical hunter and sometimes that means not taking the shot.

I took the time at Fieldays to make my way to the New Zealand Deerstalkers Association Inc site and check out their awesome ARB-kitted-out Mitsubishi giveaway raffle they are running. Key for hunters is the in-built separate and lockable gun storage in the canopy, big enough for a couple of rifles.

NZDA do a tremendous amount of great work in the advocacy and education space, as well as delivering animal control on the ground across New Zealand through their thousands of members. President Callum and CEO Gwynn have been crucial advocates for hunters on a range of issues, and we meet regularly to discuss important priorities of hunters and the sector, managing a wide range of views.
