Last Sunday, the creative talents and clapping hands of Wānaka came together to share their perspectives on the Bendigo-Ophir fast-track gold mine currently under discussion.

There was laughter, tears, a didgeridoo, and only one dick. We also raised some coin to contribute to the Sustainable Tarras’ fast-track panel submission.

Thank you again to everyone who shared, cheered, donated, and listened with an open mind - long-time locals and our wonderful newcomers alike. Because living here for sixty years doesn’t give you any more right to poison an environment that’s been here for 85 million.

Alrighty creative brains of Wānaka – we’ve got something big going down in our back yard, and we want to hear what you think about it. So, our next Creative Juices is going to be a special edition: Creative Gold.

This one's motivated by the proposed Bendigo–Ophir mine and all the questions, tensions and feelings it’s stirring up about our waterways, our landscape and our little slice of paradise. Write it, sing it, rant it, rhyme it. A song, a limerick, a haiku, a spoken word spiral… whatever form your brain takes when it’s fired up.

This is a safe space to share, not a shouting match. All perspectives are welcome, as long as they come with an open mind and a general level of respect. Come curious. Come thoughtful. Come ready to share. Let’s see what creative gold we can unearth.

P.S. don't forget your koha – all funds raised on the night will go towards Sustainable Tarras' fees for submitting their case to the fast-track panel.
