🌱 Big mihi to our marae whānau 🌱
He rangi ātaahua ā tātou mahi whakatō rākau i tērā Hatarei. What a beautiful day we had last Saturday at the Waimarama Marae planting day. It was awesome to see a range of whānau coming from near and far to tautoko restoring the Waingōngoro Awa right in the backyard of our marae. It was especially heartwarming to have a good number of tamariki and rangatahi getting involved too!
Thank you to Te Aowhītiki Lee Kershaw-Karaitiana, the Marae Manager, for organising this event, getting the spots sprayed by our whānau beforehand and getting Dad, Dave Karaitiana, on the auger boring those holes all day long. Also, a big thank you to Honey Lee Blakeney-Cabot, our Project Manager, for her demonstration and planting knowledge to help ensure a successful day of planting.
A big mihi to our partners Sustainable HB for lending us the auger and planting equipment, Hawke's Bay Regional Council for the use of their planting trailer, and our plant supplier, Plant Hawke's Bay Ltd.
And finally, to our whānau who showed up to tautoko – he mihi maioha ki a koutou, otirā ki a tātou. We were able to plant close to 900 plants at our pā along our awa – ka mau te wehi!! Having our whānau and hapū involved in this mahi makes it so much more special.
