🌸 WAIHI DAHLIA SHOW – JANUARY 2027 🌸
She’s an early one! So if you’re hoping to have blooms ready for the next Waihi Dahlia Show, now is the perfect time to start thinking about your planting schedule.
If you’ve left your tubers in the ground over winter and aren’t planning on dividing them, you don’t need to do anything just yet. In my experience, these are generally the first ones to wake up and start sprouting. 🌱
If you’re planning on lifting and dividing your tubers, there’s no better time to get into it! The weather has warmed up, which means eyes will be swelling and shoots will be starting to appear. I divided mine just last week, so it’s definitely not too late.
Once divided, and with any other dahlia stock you’re planning to plant, it’s a great idea to pot them up somewhere warm and sheltered — especially while we’re still getting plenty of rain. It gives them a chance to get growing without sitting in cold, wet soil.
I’m hoping to get mine planted out in early October, provided the tubers have nice, strong sprouts on them. 🌱🌸
