Portuguese is part of our family stories, our memories, and the way we connect with the people we love.

For children growing up in New Zealand, learning Portuguese gives them the opportunity to develop a connection with their family language and heritage.

Português como Língua de Herança (PLH)

📅 Term starts: 12 October

We offer classes for children and teens at different stages of their Portuguese journey:

🟢 Online Heritage Portuguese Language – ongoing levels
🟡 Read and Write (Alfabetização) – Saturdays (face to face)
🔵 Online Beginner Portuguese – Thursdays for children from 5 years old, and Wednesdays for teens with little or no Portuguese

Whether they are hearing Portuguese at home, learning their first words, or already speaking the language, there is a class to support their Portuguese.

Because keeping Portuguese alive means giving the next generation the opportunity to speak, understand, and connect with their heritage.

We celebrated Brazil’s Independence Day with joy at Casa Brasil!
We welcomed Ambassador Pedro Terra and Monica Terra, sang the national anthem, watched the children reenact Independence, and enjoyed a beautiful story time.

Na última aula a turma de alfabetização mergulhou nas cores, sons e histórias do Folclore Brasileiro!
Conversamos sobre parlendas, trava‑línguas, cantigas e brincadeiras, descobrindo que o folclore vai muito além das lendas, ele vive nas memórias, nas palavras e nas tradições das famílias.

Montamos uma mesa especial com brinquedos e objetos do folclore: pião, roi‑rói, corda, peteca, cama de gato, elástico e bonecas de pano. As crianças exploraram tudo com curiosidade e alegria!

Cada aluno levou para casa um livro de lenda brasileira para ler com a família e compartilhar na próxima aula.

💛 Foi uma manhã cheia de cultura, aprendizado e diversão!

✨ Aula 2 — Expressões do Dia ✨
Na nossa segunda aula, trabalhamos as expressões do dia em português:
🌞 Bom dia
🌤️ Boa tarde
🌙 Boa noite

As crianças exploraram cada expressão, relacionando com os diferentes momentos do dia e compartilhando suas rotinas — manhã, tarde e noite. Foi uma atividade cheia de participação, prática oral e muita alegria!

Também avançamos no nosso livro digital Tudo Sobre Mim, usando o Book Creator. As crianças estão aprendendo a registrar informações pessoais, adicionar fotos e gravar pequenos áudios — tudo em português, fortalecendo o uso da língua no dia a dia.

Encerramos com uma atividade no Kahoot sobre rotinas diárias e um quiz divertido para revisar o vocabulário.
A cada aula, vemos o quanto elas estão se desenvolvendo e ganhando confiança no português 💛💚

Incentivem seus pequenos a acessar as plataformas disponíveis e explorar o conteúdo em casa. Tem jogo no Wordwall, e continuem lendo os livros.

✨ Lesson 2 — Daily Greetings in Portuguese ✨
In our second class, we explored the daily greetings in Portuguese:
🌞 Bom dia — Good morning
🌤️ Boa tarde — Good afternoon
🌙 Boa noite — Good night

The children practiced each expression, connected them to different times of the day, and shared their own morning, afternoon, and evening routines. It was a joyful and interactive session with lots of speaking practice.

We also continued working on our digital All About Me book using Book Creator. The children are learning to add personal information, photos, and recordings — all in Portuguese — helping them build confidence and familiarity with the language.

To finish the lesson, we played a fun activity about daily routines and a short quiz to review the vocabulary. It’s wonderful to see how much the children are progressing and engaging with Portuguese every week 💛💚
