BIG NEWS FOR THE WHENUA – H**P RED TAPE IS GONE!

Huge news has dropped that is going to open up massive opportunities for our region. The government has confirmed that as of 28 May 2026, the old industrial h**p licensing scheme is being scrapped. It is being replaced by a much simpler system, meaning you no longer need an expensive, complicated licence to grow, process, or sell h**p.

For Te Tai Tokerau, this is a massive win that plugs a major bureaucratic leak. H**p must simply remain under a 1% THC limit, and growers just need to notify the Police and MPI before planting.

What this means for the North:

- Growing Our Own Homes: This makes it significantly easier for whānau and land trusts to grow h**p locally. It is the exact raw material we need to build warm, dry, mold-free H**pcrete homes for our papakāinga projects.

- Economic Freedom for Land Trusts: Removing the hurdle of licensing means our small businesses and Māori land blocks can jump straight into the green economy without waiting for slow government approvals.

- Sustainable Jobs for Rangatahi: From cultivation to processing h**p into building materials, textiles, or food, this law change clears the path for long-term, sustainable mahi right here at home.

- Keeping Wealth on the Whenua: Instead of importing expensive building supplies or paying heavy compliance fees, we can keep our money circulating inside our local communities.

We have always said that the rules of the old system hold us back, but this change gives us the green light to innovate on our own terms. It is time to use our land to build real resource independence.
