Only 9 weeks to go and it is full steam ahead with the “behind the scenes” preparation for our 4th BICT/Doman Special Needs to Wellness Clinic in August.

It takes huge amount of preparation and coordination to put on a clinic, especially as they have grown each time with new additions to the BICT whānau.

For our last clinic in February we were very lucky to have Rebecca Hoppe supporting Shirley and Tania for our 3rd successful clinic. Thank you again for all you did, Rebecca!

This clinic the baton has been handed over to Olivia Sheehan who has joined the BICT team as our new Programmes and Communication Coordinator. Olivia comes to us with experience and skills that are going to be a huge help, not just for clinic, but also for supporting Shirley and Tania on a daily basis in the important ongoing mahi that they do to support our BICT children and their whānau.

Please join us in welcoming Olivia to the BICT whānau👏

They often say “It takes a village to raise a child” and at the heart of each of our villages is a child with a brain injury and their immediate whānau. BICT are privileged to be there to support many villages but ultimately it is those closest that carry the heaviest load. The effort they put in daily is huge and takes a great deal of commitment from the whole whānau.

A major part in a Doman Neuro-Developmental Therapy Programme is Brachiating (Swinging on monkey bars)and our children need to develop their grip strength before they can even start to master this.

In today’s video we wanted to give you an idea of how far Maggie has progressed at this over the years with the help and support of her amazing whānau. It’s been a real team effort and there has been so much hard work put in to get her to where she is today.

Thank you for showing us what is possible, Team Mooney. You are an inspiration to us all👏

With just 11 weeks to go until the next BICT/Doman Special Needs to Wellness Clinic in August 2026 and already preparations are under way behind the scenes.

📣𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐭👋

Many of you know that Shirley is the heart of BICT, and Tania is her right-hand lady, but less well known are the group of amazing individuals who volunteer their time and expertise to serve as Trustees on the BICT Board.

They work quietly in the background supporting Shirley and bring expertise and experience gained from their respective professions to the BICT Board, ensuring that it has strong and effective governance. We are very grateful to have such a capable and invested Board.

A couple of weekends ago we managed to capture a photo of them with Shirley and Tania when they came together for our annual planning day at The Kollective - TK.

Thank you Gilli Sinclair, Litia Brighouse-Fuavao, Mark O’Connor, James Mooney and Lucy Haberfield for all that you do for BICT.

Maggie has done it again! After years of practising she has finally conquered the hanging stepping stones and can now do them independently👏

Anyone who has ever tried to do them will know just how hard they are as they require strength, core, and coordination - so a big ask!

We love Maggie’s tenacity and seeing her hard work paying off!

A big thank you to her mum Susan for no doubt helping Maggie to reach her goal, and for sharing the moment with us.

Keep up the awesome work, Team Mooney!

Chef Daniel is back in the kitchen and this was his first time working with “hot and spitting” food😱

The elements of a task like cooking breakfast may come easily to many of us but Daniel has had to work really hard to improve his hand strength and motor skills to get to this point so this is really something to be proud of.

Well done to Daniel and his mother, Rebecca, who work hard every day towards their goal of him being able to live independently. The evidence of all the effort that you put in shows in videos like these where we can see that Daniel is just getting better and better with these life skills.

Keep up the awesome work, Daniel and Rebecca👏
