Student leader, Angela, spoke on the Rangatahi panel and made us very proud. Heidi and Rachel ran a workshop about nature connection in the ngahere. 💚

We love helping a school gardener to work with a class and turn an empty space into something beautiful for people, that also attracts native wildlife. Mountview School gardener Glenn pointed out this empty space to us and we had plants from Contact Energy that would be perfect for the spot. We found a teacher and class that were keen to take it on, then worked with them to plan a garden that would help increase biodiversity at the school. On the last day of term we got stuck in and got the plants in the ground. They learnt about the special species that we were planting and the insects, birds and lizards that they provide food and habitat for, then planted and mulched them. ✨🕷️ Gazing at banks of twinkling glowworms, playing in a warm geothermal waterfall, finding a wētā on a hat, spotting spiders in webs, observing a coral slimemold on a rotten log, and catching the elusive camouflaged cabbage tree moth were all highlights of our nocturnal bug hunt for our student leaders. It's always so much fun exploring after dark, and even more fun when the track follows a geothermal stream and the banks are full of glowworms all the way. 😍 🌠 🕸️

We're super excited to see the murals that Sue Graham - Artist at Wildwood Gallery has been working on with Hilltop School Taupo students are finished and ready to be put up in their outdoor classroom space. We supported the KGT student leaders at their school to apply for the Creative Communities Scheme funding and they were successful in obtaining the funding to pay Sue to work with them on these murals. Several of them were also used as props in the production. They will look amazing in their new home. 😍💚
