It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of one of our long‑standing NDRA volunteers, Russell — a man whose presence, dedication, and steady commitment have been part of the heartbeat of our club for many many years.
Russell will be most remembered by our racers and race fans as our starter on race days, a role he carried with a calm sharp focus, and the kind of quiet strength that let everyone around him know he had his finger on the button!!. He was the friendly familiar face many racers saw before launching into their burnouts. His dedication to race day at the Motueka Raceway helped set the tone for every meet. Rain, shine, long days, tough days — Russell was always there, giving his time and energy without hesitation.
But Russell wasn’t just a volunteer. He was part of our racing family. He brought integrity, reliability, and a genuine care for people that lifted our whole community. His contribution to motorsport in the Top of the South, and to the many groups he served beyond our club, leaves a legacy of service that will not be forgotten.
Our thoughts and love are with his family, friends, and all who knew and worked alongside him. We are grateful for every moment we shared with him at the track — the stories, the laughs, the lessons, and the countless race days made better because he was there.
Rest easy, Russell. The lights will shine a little differently now, but every time we reach for the starter button, we will think of you!
