Hari Te Wiki o te Reo Māori! 💚

For Māori Language Week, we’ve taken a closer look at some of the ingoa wāhi – place names – around us.

We start with Tapawera, commonly understood from tapa meaning edge or fringe, and wera meaning hot or burnt. Local history links the name with the huge bush fires that swept through the district in 1886... but it wasn't always the name for the area!
