Many hands really did make light work at the Tapawera School and Community Garden on Sunday!

A fantastic group of locals came together for a working bee organised by Sabine, and what a difference a few hours can make when a community gets stuck in together.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along, whether you stayed for 20 minutes or the whole day.

The gardens are now looking refreshed and ready for the school kids and wider community to learn and grow an abundance of food!

Projects like this are such a great example of community-led action in Tapawera, helping strengthen local food resilience while bringing people together along the way.

If you’d like to be part of it, you can share your ideas, lend a hand! Just get in touch. Growing food is great, and growing a community is even better 💪

Locals came together for a successful working bee at the Tapawera Community Gardens. From weeding and composting to harvesting feijoas and pumpkins, the day highlighted the power of community-led action and local food resilience.

Feijoa season… it’s a race against time, right?

We were gifted a box on the weekend. Perfectly ripe, ready to eat… and then suddenly overripe before we could get through them. You know the drill... a few spots, and the kids are instantly uninterested.

So this time, I tried something different. Dehydrated them (skins on and all), and honestly… game changer.

Now instead of rushing to eat them all at once, we’ve got jars of feijoas ready for lunchboxes well past the season 🙌

It’s one of those simple, practical mum wins. Less waste, more use, and feeling slightly more on top of things (even if it’s just the snacks 😂).

I’ve shared a bit more about it here:👉 https://www.tapaweraconnect.org/blog/dehydrating-feijoas-food-waste

And if you’re curious, we’ve got a Dehydrating Workshop coming up too! Nothing fancy, just real-life ideas for making food go further and connecting with others.

What’s everyone doing with their feijoas this year? 👇

Learn how dehydrating feijoas reduces food waste and creates healthy lunchbox snacks. Join our dehydration workshop in Tapawera

There’s something powerful about hearing someone’s life story… especially when it sparks you to reflect on your own.

This Tuesday at Tea & Talk, we’re joined by Michael Brown Author, who will be sharing his journey into writing his memoirs.

From a life that’s taken him across countries and into all sorts of unexpected experiences, Michael has recently released the first of three books about his story… and he says the process has taken on a life of its own.

He’ll be chatting about what it’s like to write a memoir, why it matters, and how capturing your own story can be more powerful than you might think.

Rural Mums Events 🎨 🐰

We would like to highlight and celebration two of the many events we have had the last couple of months 😊 These events reflect growth, connection, and support ❤️ From bringing mums together to strengthening our network, each moment has been a reminder of the power of community in rural life. We’re so grateful to everyone who has been part of these events and helped make them so special, and we look forward to many more moments worth celebrating together! Suggestions of things to do / celebrate are always welcome ❤️
