In true West Otago community fashion, we pulled together to fundraise and create a facility which services our community’s healthcare needs. The new building is a combined purpose facility which has a Medical Centre and Ribbonwood Country Home with rest home and hospital level care. This was an enormous community project for West Otago’s 2,300 residents. There were over 80 fundraising events inclu

ding book and bake sales, pinecone collecting, a livestock scheme, BeerFest, and a scrap metal drive, to name a few. We received generous donations, sponsorship and grants from various residents, organisations and charities from both within West Otago or with a connection to the district. The community spirit, support and drive to successfully open the Medical Centre and Ribbonwood has been overwhelming. It is a true testament to the people of this unique community.
