A huge thank you to Rochelle and Te Herenga Waka o Orewa Marae, along with Emergency Readiness Hub Silverdale, Orewa greater area - Manaaki HOPE, for your incredible support leading into the storm.

Your help with supplying extra gear like torches, wet weather equipment, and organising FHF radios made a real difference. Those radios helped keep all the resilience groups across Whangaparāoa, East Coast, and Silverdale connected, which was invaluable.

Our small team is in the process of securing funding for these kinds of resources, but Rochelle and the Marae stepped in when it mattered most and made sure we were as prepared as possible.

We’d also like to acknowledge our local Stillwater community — so many people put their hands up offering generators and other support. Our community is a better place because of the great people we have here.

Reflecting today, we’re relieved things didn’t escalate — but also deeply grateful for the wider community. It’s clear we have strong networks of people looking out for each other and ready to step in when needed.

We were lucky this time. But we all know it’s only a matter of time before a bigger event comes. Every time we prepare together, we become more ready, more connected, and more resilient.

Ngā mihi nui to everyone involved 💛

Strong winds like we are expecting from Cyclone Vaianu can cause power cuts and affect phone and internet service.

Make sure you're prepared for no power, phone or internet at getready.govt.nz/impacts

If you need emergency help, always try calling 111 — even if your mobile phone shows no signal or your network provider appears unavailable.

Text instead of call if you can as texts take up less room on the networks.

If you or someone at home relies on electricity to prevent serious harm to health, let you power company know. Learn how you can prepare for power cuts if you rely on electricity for medical reasons at https://www.ea.govt.nz/your-power/consumer-care-obligations/if-you-rely-on-electricity-for-medical-reasons/

Nice weather we had today — but don’t be fooled. A big storm is forecast to hit the Auckland region this weekend.

The category 2 cyclone will hit hardest on Sunday afternoon (around 2pm) which is expected to coincide with a high tide. This increases the risk of coastal flooding and surface flooding in low-lying areas.

Now is the time to prepare rather than rushing later.

Tie down or bring inside loose outdoor furniture, trampolines, bins, and tools.

Clear drains and gutters so heavy rain can flow away.

Move vehicles or valuables away from low-lying areas if flooding is possible.

Prepare for possible power outages; charge you devices.

Make sure you have basic supplies: Enough food and drinking water for at least 5-7 days ideally. Essential medications and pet food if required.

Consider putting together a small emergency “grab bag”
Useful items might include:
• Torch and spare batteries
• Phone charger or power bank
• Bottled water
• Basic first aid kit
• Warm clothing or rain jacket
• Copies of important documents
• Snacks or emergency food

And look out for one another. Check in with neighbours, especially elderly residents or anyone living alone, and offer help if someone needs assistance securing their property or preparing supplies.

You can follow official updates and warnings here:
• MetService – weather warnings and cyclone tracking
https://www.metservice.com/warnings
• Auckland Emergency Management – local emergency updates and preparation advice
https://www.aucklandemergencymanagement.org.nz
• NIWA – rainfall forecasts and weather information
https://niwa.co.nz
• Vector Limited – power outage map and updates

We’ll hopefully get through this with nothing more than some wind and rain, but being prepared early makes a big difference if conditions worsen.

Stay safe everyone!

With the storm approaching, now is the time to check in and make sure you are prepared.

If the power goes out, will you be ready?

Take a few minutes today to:
• Charge your phones and power banks
• Check torches and batteries
• Have food and water sorted
• Know how you will stay informed

The CRG team will continue to keep the village updated as this develops over the week.

A little preparation now makes a big difference later.

Stay safe Stillwater.

Hi Stillwater community,

On behalf of the Stillwater CRG, we’re reaching out to see if there may be a local lawyer who would be willing to help guide us through the process of becoming an Incorporated Society.

As a volunteer-led group, we don’t currently have funding available for this, so we’re hoping someone in the community might be able to offer some support or advice.

If you’re able to help, or know someone who might be, we’d really appreciate hearing from you.

Thanks so much,
Stillwater CRG

With the severe weather system now moving into the wider Auckland / Hibiscus Coast area, it is worth taking a moment to prepare and stay informed.

Forecasts indicate a period of sustained heavy rain and strong winds from tonight through to Friday. Conditions like this can lead to localised flooding, fallen trees and possible power or internet outages, particularly in more exposed coastal and semi-rural areas such as Stillwater.

A few simple steps now can make a real difference:
• Charge phones, laptops and backup batteries
• Check torches and emergency supplies
• Secure loose outdoor items
• Keep vehicles clear of large trees where possible
• Stay alert to changing conditions and official updates

Please also look out for one another. If you notice a neighbour who may need assistance, or if information becomes available about localised impacts, sharing updates within the community can help everyone respond more effectively.

You can monitor the situation and check for warnings or outages using the links below:

Stay safe, stay prepared, and support each other where you can.

Auckland Emergency Management (AEM) is urging Aucklanders to stay up to date with weather forecasts and take extreme care as continued storm conditions bear down on the region.
