🏆 Riverton Athletics is the winners of the 25/26 Waverley Shield season!!! 🟢⚪️

First time we have won in 14 years since the club reentered the competition and first time since it began in 1956

📣 Southland Champs athletes please read as slight time changes.

🔺️🔺️ATTENTION🔺️🔺 ️Entries are now closed for this weekend and there will be a couple of changes to the program due to entry numbers. Please be prepared for the program to potentially run ahead of time ⏪️⏰️, or if there are delays, behind time ⏩️⏰️.

Below are a couple we can highlight, but please pay attention to announcements 📢 made at the track over the weekend.

First on the track tomorrow, Day 1, will be the 1500m, with lower numbers of 13/14's, all grades will likely run together at 10am. This will then allow the Senior 1000m to start early, and likewise the Senior 60m and following Junior 100m races.

On Day 2, we will bring forward the 14B/14G Long Jump to 1030am, to allow the 11B/11Gs to do Long Jump at 1100am, to avoid the clash with 11B Shotput at 1130am.

It looks like the weather is going to be good, Saturday is sunny ☀️ with cloud 🌤 increasing, 17°C, with westerly winds increasing during the day, changing to south westerly and a chance of rain 🌦 on Sunday, 14°C. It is Southland, so please come prepared for all weather conditions 😁

We are looking forward to seeing everyone there for a great weekend of competition!! 🏃‍♂️ 🏃‍♀️

Southland Champs timetable.

Next weekend, Saturday 28 February and Sunday 1 March, is the Southland Junior Track and Field Championships and a Senior Under-Distance Meeting (on Saturday).

Entries need to be submitted via athletic . net BEFORE 6pm on Thursday 26 February. The timetable is below, but please remember depending on entries events can run ahead of (or behind) time.

The cost to enter the Junior Champs is $1 per event this needs to be paid to your club, who will then pay Athletics Southland. The cost to enter the Senior Meet is $6 for registered athletes or $8 for unregistered. As per normal, please ensure you pay before competing, either cash on the day or bank transfer.

This will be a busy weekend, and we will need parents, partners and friends of both Junior AND Senior athletes to step forward to help run events over the weekend.

📣 Waverley Shield is cancelled today 📣
Good Morning everyone . Unfortunately due to forecast strong winds of 40-50km per hour to continue through out the day we have made the decision to cancel the Waverley shield and Senior meet today. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Programme for Sunday 22nd Feb. last Waverley Shield for the season + jump and steeple skills session. Good luck to all athletes 🟢⚪️🏃‍♀️🏃

Below is the programme for Sunday 22 February. This is the last Waverley Shield meeting at Surrey Park this season and will see the return of the very popular water jump and steeple skills session for all ages. (Bring a change of clothes)

This will also be a combined Senior Meeting, finishing with the Southland Senior Steeplechase Championships.

Those athletes in age grade 13 and 14 can enter the U16 Steeplechase championships if they wish.
